Black, White & Denim: Vivienne Westwood, Zara, J Brand & Majdan Rocks

This is one of my favourite style posts on the blog because all of my new family were involved in its inception – husband and photographer extraordinaire and my recently ‘adopted’ yellow lab framed in the winter sunlight back in December in the USA.

I wish the winters in England were always as bright as they were in Atlanta. Even though Atlanta recently had snow, here in the UK I seem perpetually surrounded by grey clouds, wind and rain. All very depressing. Very soon I will have diagnosed myself with Seasonal Affective Disorder, thank goodness the fashion weeks are fast approaching for some excitement!

Black, white and denim continue to be my wardrobe theme since the past few years. I bought this pair of J Brand boyfriend jeans in the U.S at Neiman Marcus and have been wearing them with a range of shirts and slouchy jumpers during this cold time.  Admittedly the ripped fabric adds an extra chill when you step outside your front door having forgotten what you’re wearing, but hey, this is fashion not comfort, Blog Reader :)

This Vivienne Westwood Anglomania coat is one of those wonderful styles, half cape, half jacket, that makes me feel cocooned when I wear it.  I know this will stay with me for years through the autumn winter seasons, and I particularly like the wide sleeves that make it compatible with a range of things worn under it (I just can’t abide a tight-fitting coat, unless perhaps military styles, that means I can’t layer well in the cold).

During my December travels I wore my Majdan Rocks Slope Ring often. I’m not an avid wearer of jewelry but this ring is a wonderfully substantial piece to show off; modern in style and a little quirky.  Majdan Rocks are currently sold on the Luisaviaroma website which is testament to the success of the brand.  A little bit of daring with a lot of understated elegance, do check out designer Iwona Majdan’s website for more in this series.

Boyfriend Jean Noisy MayUnconventional denim brand Noisy May have made the perfect pair of boyfriend jeans which should form part of your capsule wardrobe, Blog Reader. A sub brand of one of my favourites; Vero Moda, Noisy May is a playground for the denim junkie.  With cutting edge styles sitting alongside can’t-live-without jeans such as my boyfriend pair, Noisy May is a perfect shopping destination for affordable and cool fashion.

Alongside the skinny denim jean, boyfriend styles feature in my list of denim items within a capsule wardrobe.  As you can see in the post here, I’ve worn these jeans several ways – from pairing them with a simple white vest and trainers to red stilettos for a night out.  Now selling on ASOS, Noisy May have a selection of tops, jackets and sweatshirts to choose from. Without Music, Life Would Be A Mistake: Surfdome Wesc Headphones

Surfdome Lifestyle StoreNietzsche said of it; “without music, life would be a mistake.”  Kerouc told us that “the only truth is music.” Rhianna asked for it to never stop and Johnny Depp said “music touches us emotionally, where words alone can’t.”

I listen to a lot of music – getting ready in the morning; in the car on the way to and from work; during my work outs and at the end of the day when I’m getting dinner ready.  I used to be wedded to dance music but like many* the older I get the more refined my tastes become and the more I want to listen to different singers and styles of music.  One of my favourite music quotes is from Bono who said:  ”pop music often tells you everything is OK, while rock music tells you that it’s not OK, but you can change it.”  I like his thinking – my taste becomes ever more rock focussed as the days go by…!

Surfdome was a recent discovery for me as I was browsing various online stores for some of the bits and bobs I need for my trip to the US next month.  A lifestyle store, Surfdome have a great selection of brands organised according to categories such as holiday and travel, fitness, fashion clothing and even snorkeling.  I found these Wesc headphones which have been on my coveted list for a while now, I already own a retro pair of DJ style headphones but this Oboe style by Wesc is a modern design with a wide headband across the top that is comfortable and made of sturdy material.  The padding on the earcups is also sturdy with a nice soft leathery feel to them. I chose white because it felt the most modern of the colours available but if you don’t like to stand out in the crowd whilst you listen to your music you might prefer black.

Or there is always neon yellow, just sayin’.

If you have a trip coming up or need to replenish your wardrobe Surfdome might be a one stop shop for you if you’re active and sporty.  Click HERE to head to Surfdome.
