Lover the label rosebud dress as wedding dress on styleonthecouch photo by lydia hudgensI will keep this post short, Blog Reader, if you will allow me, because I am sure I will never find the perfect words to explain just how magical this day was and how wonderful I felt being a part of it.  Last weekend I got married to a love who makes me laugh and smile every single day; whose creativity and kindness inspire me and whose touch makes me go weak at the knees.

And so, here I am wearing my wedding dress, the Rosebud Halter Dress (click HERE to view the same style in black) from Australian brand Lover The Label - a fan of their lace, this was perfect for our modern wedding.  The Rosebud Halter is a backless, fitted dress in a floral French lace with slim satin halter ties and a hemline that comes to a point at front centre and is longer at back.  I received excellent service from Lover’s flagship boutique in Sydney, Australia – if you want to know more about their designs as an international buyer you can email them: shop@loverthelabel.com - please tell them I sent you their way.

Photos: The fabulous Lydia Hudgens who I was so happy to be able to work with again. Lydia snapped some more photos for me during my trip back to the US where the wedding was held – did I mention I had two dresses, not one, Blog Reader? Oh well now you know :) – the bride here wore Lover The Label, the dashing groom Tom Ford (I wonder if said husband will let me post some pictures hmmm.)

It seems fitting, Blog Reader, to write about white after a week or so of snow here in the UK.  It’s been coooold in England!

These photos are from one of my last photography sessions with my good friend Lydia Hudgens back in the US last year.  We shot this series in the Ace Hotel in Manhattan, a chic and fun place to stay with very close proximity to some amazing fashion…  Opening Ceremony‘s boutique at the front of the hotel stocks a great selection of designers: Proenza Schouler, Band of Outsiders and Alexander Wang for starters.  I have a soft spot for the place, it being where Rodarte held their sample sale when I first arrived in NYC and snapped up my Nicholas Kirkwood for Rodarte heels at a bargain price!

This dress is two of my favourite things rolled into one.  ’Body conscious’ or well-fitted as you might call it, and the colour white.  I bought it from French Connection eons ago and at the time I think I felt it was as close to a Victoria Beckham piece as I was ever going to buy….. These days (ok, still no Victoria Beckham in my wardrobe but hey) it’s still a great dress to wear for cocktails or dinner.  And although silhouettes aren’t quite as structured this spring, the more relaxed summer styles make for a little more wearability (is that even a word?) and styling possibilities.  My round up of the best at designer and high street prices, below:

Reiss ‘Crew’ Knitted Sweatshirt Dress, 120 GBP

T by Alexander Wang Jersey-Cotton Dress, 50 GBP and Carven Asymmetric Dress 147 from The Outnet

DKNY runway snowball leather dress, 843 GPB

Tibi Pleated Neoprene Dress at Net a Porter, 484 GBP

Clean Textured Shift Dress, 50 GBP from TopShop

Oh and finally – Victoria Beckham Lace-Trimmer Stretch Cotton Dress at Net a Porter (you might have seen Scarlett Johansson wearing this on the cover of February’s Elle Magazine), 1,700 GBP

And because I love this piece sooo much – white with a twist – Alice Yim Flora Romper in pearl, price available on request.

I also found a lovely round-up of spring whites from the catwalks on the blog PinkHappens - perfect for some inspiration on how to get dressed in this summer.

Classic Clothing Series: The Little White Dress – Topshop

Winter white (off white, cream) is one of my favourite colour choices at this time of year. A bit of a fashion taboo (white? in the dark, dreary, wet, cold and sludgy winter I hear you say?) but whites are guaranteed to see you stand out in a sea of brown, black and grey.

When I returned to London last month I made a bee-line for Topshop to stock up on some staples whilst part of my wardrobe was shipped back to the UK. This open back dress in one of my favourite ‘flippy’ fit and flare styles screamed ‘buy me’ because of its potential for styling different ways.  I’ve worn it with my Helmut Lang leather jacket, Wolford tights and knee-high boots; wrapped up underneath a chunky knit and with a colourful blazer*.

White isn’t an absence of colour – rather it is a shining and affirmative one.  I think every wardrobe should include a little white dress like this one.

White is also about wholeness and completion; equality, balance, independence and new beginnings. Quite fitting for me right now I feel as I return to the UK.  I hope all my American friends had a fantastic Thanksgiving holiday! It was my birthday this week, I had an amazing time – I’m still celebrating….
