Hell For Leather.

I first saw these Tom Gunn Penn heels back in September when I met designers Gabrielle Thompson and Shannon Gunn at Caspule.  They invited me to their preview event in NYC where I saw their full autumn / winter collection, a unique series of shoes, all individually styled, created from mixed textures and contrasting colours.  The bone / orange colours are unlike anything I own in footwear, so it took me a while to get the styling right in terms of what to pair them with.

Here I’m back to black – in an outfit I’m most likely packing for the UK next week. These Gap skinnies and my J Crew Blythe Blouse are probably the most versatile pieces I own.  The silk blouse is available in some amazing colours – a ‘bright sun’ neon yellow, vibrant ‘marrakech purple’ and a hot pink ‘neon rose’ but you know me, Blog Reader, I own alabaster and black and that’s perfect for my style.

This is one of my favourite weekend outfits.  My bag here is by The Frye Company, who do a lovely set of messenger bag styles – this Cameron Crossbody fits a tablet and all the daily necessities in an attractive antique leather style.  It’s the perfect partner for my leather cuffs, which are finally relaxing a bit after some wear.

I also think, Blog Reader, this outfit might just prove that five months into my mission to accessorise, accessorise, accessorise, I might just have cracked it.  Belt? Check.  Bag? Check. Cuffs? Check (check). Sunglasses? Check.

Mission no longer impossible. Mission = completed.

Any fashion goals for you this year, Blog Reader?

Tom Gunn Shoes Bloggers Event

I met Gabrielle Thompson and Shannon Gunn of Tom Gunn shoes at Capsule Show in New York this week.  Last night they invited bloggers to view current and forthcoming styles at the Fashion Indie loft in Manhattan.

An Australian label, Tom Gunn designs are already well established in Oz and have been featured in Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Grazia and InStyle.

At Capsule, this pair above drew my stylist friend Verena like honey to a bee… The word that sums up the Tom Gunn signature aesthetic? Probably ‘edgy’, maybe ‘unique.  Shoes are individually styled but incorporate mixed textures and contrasting colours within a design

They also source their leather and skins carefully, from suppliers in Italy.  Gabrielle and Shannon trained at the Ars Arpel School in Milan and launched their label together in 2008.  Their first Australian boutique opened in 2011, coinciding with the release of their Autumn Winter collection:

I was blown away by the designs for their forthcoming collections.  Even the colour excited me (no mean feat, considering my penchant for monochrome). I’m coveting this pair for next summer, the perfect “go with anything” heel:

Capsule (Women) New York City

This week Capsule Show held its womenswear event in New York City.  A fashion and lifestyle trade show bringing together independent designers and contemporary brands from around the world to showcase their collections to US buyers, Capsule introduced me an exciting mix of styles.  Held in a stacked (and packed!) building in the Meatpacking district with a delightful cafe on the roof, there was plenty to see…

Some preview shots here:

The reason I attended Capsule was in the hope of finding new brands to share with you on the blog.  I was not disappointed, I left the show full of excitement (as well as with a revised, longer wish list of coveted items) for the designers I was introduced to at the event.

I plan to post about my favourite brands / designers when I return from my holiday in California (I’ll be away and taking a ‘blog break’ Sept 24th – Oct 10th), but if you should be reading this from Europe and are interested in attending the show, Capsule comes to Paris Oct 1-3rd.  Details here.
