StyleOnTheCouch Loves: L.K. Bennett by Caroline Issa

This week in London has been a busy one!  One of the highlights was a preview of the new SS13 collection of clothing and footwear from British brand L.K. Bennett and their exciting collaborating with Caroline Issa, fashion director of Tank Magazine.  A capsule collection of shoes and bags inspired by Caroline’s trips to Thailand, hot neon colours with embroidery, oriental flowers and pom poms (see image below, top left) make for a delightful spring in your step come summer.  The shoes in particular are very much in keeping with Issa’s personal style aesthetic – Issa was born to in Montreal to a Chinese mother and a half-Lebanese, half-Iranian father and is very much a multi-cultural beauty.

The capsule collection of shoes – including shoe boots, ankle-strap stilettos and kitten heels – and two handbags styles, will be launched in February next year.

The L.K. Bennett team sure know how to put on a great launch event and the preview evening involved copious amounts of champagne, tasty nibbles and lots of education from their team of designers who were on hand to answer questions (I learned that the creation of a perfect court shoe is quite a meticulous process at the brand!)

I walked away from the event with a lovely gift of the Emmaline shoulder bag, seen here in light rose shade.  The smaller sister of the brand’s signature bag Emma, Emmaline is a classic bag in a simple shape with flap-over front and some lovely double strap detailing.  The perfect tote for my morning out in Notting Hill when I took these photos, it is available in black, grey, tan and pink from the L.K. Bennett website.

Many thanks to L.K. Bennett for a wonderful evening and to Anna for these pictures.  Watch out for L.K. Bennett by Caroline Issa early next year.

Let’s talk about traveling, Blog Reader.  I’ve always wanted to be an organized, efficient traveller, with the perfect capsule wardrobe and perfectly chic luggage…  Yes, Blog Reader, I would arrive at Heathrow airport with my large round sunglasses, skinny jeans and perfect hair a la Posh Spice like that long haul flight never happened.

My status as a Spice Girl as yet unconfirmed* I do have several things that are making traveling across the Atlantic easier this trip.  I was gifted this fabulous laptop bag from Graceship last month and it’s the perfect briefcase for my Apple mac and all my travel essentials.  Graceship have a series of three laptop bags: New York (mine), Chicago and London – New York is my favourite for its sophisticated and boxy shape, shoulder strap (not seen) and multiple interior pockets. London would look at home on Kate Middleton’s arm I’m sure!  New York however feels more me. I also like that it doesn’t appear too business-y for a laptop bag.

You may remember my trip to Charleston last month and to the wonderful Hampden Clothing where owner Stacey pulled this pleated Timo Weiland skirt out for me from her sale selection.  It’s a proving a lovely transitional piece for the slight chill in the air in London** and I love wearing it with my silk Blythe Blouse from J Crew – a wardrobe staple of mine.  J Crew just introduced a new retro jade colour for the shirt that’s a fabulous aqua colour – on my wish list.

A few words on these shoes – I bought this pair from ALDO in their summer sale just recently at a great price.  ALDO still have some good reductions on high-heeled sandals – check out the site if you’re in the market for a pair.

This week in London has been a whirlwind.  I’ve had a lot of fun though.  I’m flying back to America on Tuesday, heading to Austin via NYC.  I’ll post some of my London trip photos soon – yesterday I had a fun brunch with Anna of South Molton St Style, Dearne of Notting Hill Girl and Briony of A Girl A Style followed by an impromptu photoshoot near Golden Square.  I also met the lovely Milla of Not Just Another Milla for a catch up – she has the best afternoon tea reviews I have ever read so be sure to check these out on her site.  Until next time, London…

*OK ok so I did miss the boat on that one but I can do a mean ‘zig a zig ah’ after two large glasses of wine. Watch me.

**Technically still summer, feels like autumn, oh well London I still love you.

StyleOnTheCouch Loves: Hampden Clothing

Let’s take a moment to read the list of brands on Hampden Clothing‘s front window, Blog Reader.  Alexander Wang? Check.  Helmut Lang? Check.  Opening Ceremony? Check check.  Yigal Azrouel? Check.  Ah I believe Hampden Clothing is my idea of shopping heaven.  This lovely boutique on King Street, Charleston was a must-visit on my recent trip to the city.  Owner Stacy Smallwood showed me around the boutique, a mix of contemporary womenswear and accessories perfectly grouped for outfit inspiration.

My favourite part of the store was the wall of ‘Stylist Picks’ from Stacy and her team – a beautiful array of autumnal colours with a standout sleeveless leather dress from HANii Y. The team at Hampden Clothing make the place something special too, offering personalised service to their clients as well as running some incredibly fun and unique events in store.  Rag & Bone once held a fashion show at Hampden and tomorrow night (Thursday 9th August) Timo Weiland and the girls from Lizzie Fortunato are around for a meet and greet.

I also came away from Hampden with a little something of my own, this gorgeous Lily Pad Pleated Skirt by by Timo Weiland. An absolute bargain at $85 in the sale, selected for me by Stacy.  I’m quite sure I wouldn’t have looked twice at this piece if she hadn’t suggested it, but a perfect fit for me it is:

If I lived in Charleston, I’d be in Hampden Clothing on a regular basis.  Actually, I just might move in.  Thankfully for those of us not in the area, we can also shop online as well as receive styling advice via the website.  Their summer sale is still on too – some fabulous bargains to be had.

Hampden Clothing can be found at 314 King Street, Charleston.
