Friday Lingerie Lust: Stella McCartney & Journelle for Fashion’s Night Out

Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out turns four years old this year.   On September 6th 2012 stylish events will be held all over the world with special offers, limited edition products and guest appearances.

Last September I popped into Journelle‘s SoHo boutique in NYC to join the fun.  This year they have a wonderful event planned in conjunction with Stella McCartney – a chance to preview Stella’s new BASIC line (simply called; ‘Stella’) along with her autumn / winter lingerie collection for 2012.  There will also be the usual fun and games done so wonderfully by Journelle, including competitions to win fabulous prizes.

The new ‘Stella’ line has been created in keeping with McCartney’s eco-conscious focus.  Made from organic cotton and recycled hardware, a series of bra shapes with a multifunctional design are lightweight and reasonably priced (a bra costs $68).  Looking at the preview images I’m already a huge fan of the new shapes and I love that signature details such as the gold rings and logo have been retained in this collection.

I can’t wait to get my hands on this set below:

In conjunction with their Fashion’ Night Out event, the lovely folks at Journelle are offering one lucky StyleOnTheCouch reader a chance to win a pair of Stella McCartney’s ‘tourist knickers’:

In order to take part to win you must either:

1) Mention this competition on Twitter by re-tweeting me and mentioning StyleOnTheCouch and @ShopJournelle (you’ll find me @StyleOnTheCouch) or,

2) Share this competition on Facebook (you’ll find me here).

Just be sure to leave me a comment below to say you’ve done one or two above and leave your email address so I know where to reach you.  The competition is open internationally and the closing date is midnight September 6th. Good luck!

Be sure to visit Journelle if you are in New York City for Fashion’s Night Out this year! Details are in the invitation at the top of this blog post.

Give Me Your LAVUK

Last month I discovered LAVUK, a label blending elegance and modern living, who I featured in my weekly column for the online fashion community Lookbooks.  I had several delightful email exchanges with designer and founder Natasha Gindin about the inspiration behind her collections along with her path into fashion design.  Born in former Yugoslavia and now living and working in Los Angeles, Natasha’s talents were nurtured by the owner of a boutique she worked in, in Santa Monica.  Within a little studio tucked away inside the store front; “I was often helping out the designer with some styles that she was stuck on… I learned a great deal from her.  She was the first one to spot my talent” Natasha explained.

The rather unusual name LAVUK combines two words: LAV = ‘lion’ and VUK = ‘wolf’- the names of Natasha’s twin nephews who were born at the same time she took a leap of faith and started her own clothing brand.

She lends a touch of the Adriatic to her spring 2012 collection with colours of cyan blue and orange-red; “The sea is so full of inspiration starting from variety of fishes to seaweed to shallow and deep sea colours…”

Now based in Downtown Los Angeles, Natasha has a strong ecological focus that I admire. Every garment purchased results in a tree being planted through the American Forests organisation.  LAVUK garments are also created using eco-friendly dyes and fabrics; “I try to do everything I can from my end” Natasha told me. “The time is now or never, I believe.

You can buy LAVUK from several stockists across the USA, including the delightful Lower East Side boutique Kaight in New York City and Hangr 16 that I visited when I was in San Francisco last year.  To see the full LAVUK range, visit their website.

Happy Easter, Blog Reader! StyleOnTheCouch xo

Friday Lingerie Lust: Stella McCartney

Back in 2008 Stella McCartney launched her first lingerie collection.  It was received well: a 40s inspired collection with cheeky names such as “Poppy Posing”, “Coco Blushing”, “Sandy Stripping” and “Eve Giggling”.

Now in 2011, Stella has designed a bridal range “Josephine Marrying” (lots of Josephines in the lingerie world it seems – Agent Provocateur used Josephine de la Baume as the face of its Spring Summer 11 collection) for Autumn Winter 11/12 .  McCartney’s “Josephine Marrying” is a delightfully feminine set, all lace and champagne satin…

…and don’t get me started on the packaging – beautiful creamy white boxes with large gold lettering that surely sets your heart a flutter, big day or no.

Overall Stella McCartney’s new lingerie collection is an impressive and diverse range of texture and colour.  Alongside “Josephine Marrying” we have ”Lola Spinning” and “Caroline Wriggling” (what with all this posing, giggling, wriggling, spinning, stripping and blushing… Ms McCartney is a woman who has a lot of fun, I sense!)

For me this recent collection is vibrant as well as sensual but I can’t quite bring myself to love it as much as her 2010 collection where strong colours (purples, greens) as well as neutrals/lace featured.  One of my favourite longline bras from 2o10, below:

I am however a huge fan of the red set from 2011, now item #10438 on my wish list*.  To view Stella’s lingerie collections from 2009 to date do take a look at her facebook page. (Here you can also view photos of the launch of her new ‘Print’ fragrances, released this week in the UK – worldwide launch dates to be confirmed:)
