Lingerie Focus: Ayten Gasson

This very pretty lingerie collection is from luxury label Ayten Gasson.  Made from the softest, shimmering silk fabrics and unique vintage trims, spring summer 2013 is a delicate mix of styles with a decadent appeal: kimono style bed jackets, lace-kissed playsuits and soft-cup bras.

Ayten Roberts is both designer and founder of Ayten Gasson lingerie.  A graduate from Central Saint Martins, London in 2004, she quickly became disillusioned with the manufacturing industry in the UK.  Finding that many of the factories she knew in England had closed and moved their design operations overseas, she worked to support the British fashion industry by using only small production units in London, Nottingham and Wales to make her collections.  Roberts is also committed to ethical and sustainable practice and recently launched an eco-friendly line.  Cruelty free ‘peace silk’ and organic silk also feature regularly within her collections – there is a lovely interview with the designer on The Lingerie Addict about her inspirations and ethical approach.

What appeals to me about this line for spring is its slinky look and feel and the vintage flair which comes across in these images.  It makes me think of the era of Downton Abbey – I think Lady Mary would be more than at home with this silk teddy and garter as her foundations!

Friday Lingerie Lust: Beautiful Bottoms

Delicate, vintage inspired and ultra feminine, my heart skips a little beat for Beautiful Bottoms spring collection 2012.  The colours are beautiful – a soft palette of taupe, mint green, pale pink and neutrals surround distinctive bird prints – peacock and bird of paradise.

Collections are also named after birds – Dove is a soft and romantic line of icy whites and blue-greys, the robe from which makes a perfect cover up as well as loungewear piece.  I wore this robe several times in Turkey last week, a beautiful design.  Bluebird (picture, top) is a charming colour, the shade of cornflower blue which seems perfect for tanned skins and pale complexions alike.

Peacock is perhaps the most striking from the collection, a feather print in vibrant green hues.  Bloom (below, the non padded wired comfort bra) departs from the bird theme but is very much in keeping with the rest of the collection with its nature inspired cream, lilac and pale pink floral print.

My favourite set from the collection is the Kingfisher Tie Front Bra and Ruched Knicker in vibrant electric blue (below):

There is also a very cute playsuit in the Kingfisher collection, picture (image below).

Beautiful Bottoms have created a gorgeous collection of lingerie and loungewear that is quite versatile – for the beach or the boudoir be sure to check out their full collection here.

Have a lovely weekend, Blog Reader.  I have some Turkey-related travel posts for you next week along with a look at the new autumn winter collection from Reiss - see you then! xo

Friday Lingerie Lust: Strumpet & Pink

A slightly different lingerie feature this week Blog Reader, as we have a particular focus on the derriere.  Or, at least the type of derriere I imagine Marie Antoinette to have should she be alive in 2011 and searching for her perfect brand.

She would have to travel to England, naturellement, to Strumpet & Pink, to capture these amazing designs (rather, works of art) created by Lisa Morgan and Melanie Probert. Each of their pieces is individually named, for example “Rosette Cheeks” and “Lady Chatterley’s Lover”* and are almost, I fear, too pretty to wear….

I’m rather fond of any collections that are laden with contradictions, so no surprise that I love these hand made pieces from Strumpet & Pink.  They are soft and feminine, designed with a certain fragility and sensuality, yet they are also far too much fun to be taken seriously.

The fabrics used for the designs are a celebration of fashion and frills: satin, chiffon, ribbon, silk….. one of my favourite lingerie boutiques Faire Frou Frou describe the knickers as “wearable art, kind of like a couture gown.”

I may just have found the McQueen of the lingerie world.

Now, these designs are not cheap, but if you’re thinking of a serious splurge then you can purchase from Faire Frou Frou and GlamAm.  Or, like me, you can just admire these gorgeous designs here.

Would love to hear your thoughts on these pieces…. Happy weekend all! xo

*in case you are wondering – image top: name = “Pussy Willow”. These two designers have a cheeky sense of humour….
