Knomo_albaWhen it comes to blogging there are certain essentials I can’t do without.  For eons* I denied myself a laptop bag, always sticking my Mac into my oversized fabric tote no matter where I was off too or who I was with. Then I managed to locate a handbag that doubled as a laptop carrier and all was fine and dandy (if occasionally, a little heavy).  Then, the lovely folks at Knomo offered me one of their ultra-slim laptop casesperfect for the bumps I put my Mac Book Pro through on a regular basis and able to be carried three ways: via the detachable, adjustable strap, top retractable handle, or inside my tote again if needs be :)

The stylish and practical function of the slim clearly influenced my choice of outfit for this post.  Back in monochrome, these amazing black lace shorts and off white roll sleeve Liv Jacquard top from Reiss is one of my go-to outfits for the summer evenings here in the UK.  The shorts have a great fit, the type usually reserved for scalloped hem shorts but here the lace hem seems more sophisticated somehow. I invested in them in the recent Reiss sale but I know I’ll be wearing them for years to come.

Back to Knomo – this brand have a great selection of bags and laptop sleeves and carriers. The Zion bag in buttermilk and the perfectly sized Alba are my other favourites from the collection. I also have my eye on their Kyoto soft leather cross-body too.

Summer sale picks reissI spent a remarkable amount of time browsing summer sales this weekend, Blog Reader.  Whilst I may mostly have been dreaming (or should I say, drooling) of that special piece from Erdem or Peter Pilotto to take with me on honeymoon later this year, I did remember that summer sales are an excellent time to make investments on show stopping or classic pieces that will carry you into the fashion future and never get ‘old’.

First things first though, a little summer sales advice (especially of the online variety).

1. Make a plan – If you haven’t got many special events on this year, nor does your wardrobe resemble that of Daphne Guinness, that spectacular dress or gown might be a waste of your hard earned cash. Repeat this mantra several times just so you get it, Blog Reader. Decide what you want to invest in at a bargain price and stick with it.

2. Buy double – if you really haven’t found that perfect pair of slim fit black trousers and you stumble across the perfect pair in the sale, you may want to think about buying too. Some great bargains don’t often come round again…

3. Remember your body type and style aesthetic – summer sales (or any sales for that matter) are not times to experiment with fashion.  Stick to what you know and what you know works for you. That McQueen jumpsuit, whilst an absolute bargain, may not reaaaally be your thing.

So. Without further ado, some of my favourite sales on presently:

Net a Porter

Dorothy Perkins

Reiss

Lover The Label

Here I am presenting some of my top sale ‘picks’ for you.  I hope you like them, BlogReader.  Also, if you have any sales suggestions or top picks of your own, let me know!

I always indulge in a little ‘self love’ at Christmas, Blog Reader, and make a little purchase from one of the Christmas sales that start around this time.  Given my love of Reiss, I enjoy browsing their sale – my top picks are the Corona feather tank and the Raina dress in ‘night sky’:

After I posted about my Reiss column skirt on Sunday, I got some requests for other ways to style it. Since the Alfie skirt is included in the Reiss Christmas sale it feels timely to repost it here for a second look.

I’m posting my office casual Christmas drinks outfit today but I find it so difficult to get my style for these events right.  Office drinks starting in the late afternoon don’t require the glamour or sparkle of an evening event and you still gotta work in the morning (hey ho).  I kept it simple and left the silhouette to do the talking this year.  I adore the high waist on this skirt, it gives me curves as well as dramatic length which I love. I paired it with my J Crew silk blouse that should probably win an award for ‘most versatile item in my wardrobe’ this year.  J Crew have released two new “luxe” versions of this shirt – one in neon azalea and the other in sand dune – perfect for spring’s palette of pastels and highlighter colours.  One of my top hints for investment pieces for 2012.

The rest of this week is now about winding down to Christmas….. and enjoying the holidays…

What’s your go to office drinks outfit, Blog Reader?

Wearing: Alfie maxi column skirt from Reiss; shoes, Izabela from Nine West; Blythe silk blouse from J Crew.
