Summer sale picks reissI spent a remarkable amount of time browsing summer sales this weekend, Blog Reader.  Whilst I may mostly have been dreaming (or should I say, drooling) of that special piece from Erdem or Peter Pilotto to take with me on honeymoon later this year, I did remember that summer sales are an excellent time to make investments on show stopping or classic pieces that will carry you into the fashion future and never get ‘old’.

First things first though, a little summer sales advice (especially of the online variety).

1. Make a plan – If you haven’t got many special events on this year, nor does your wardrobe resemble that of Daphne Guinness, that spectacular dress or gown might be a waste of your hard earned cash. Repeat this mantra several times just so you get it, Blog Reader. Decide what you want to invest in at a bargain price and stick with it.

2. Buy double – if you really haven’t found that perfect pair of slim fit black trousers and you stumble across the perfect pair in the sale, you may want to think about buying too. Some great bargains don’t often come round again…

3. Remember your body type and style aesthetic – summer sales (or any sales for that matter) are not times to experiment with fashion.  Stick to what you know and what you know works for you. That McQueen jumpsuit, whilst an absolute bargain, may not reaaaally be your thing.

So. Without further ado, some of my favourite sales on presently:

Net a Porter

Dorothy Perkins

Lover The Label

My Wardrobe

Here I am presenting some of my top sale ‘picks’ for you.  I hope you like them, BlogReader.  Also, if you have any sales suggestions or top picks of your own, let me know!

My top sale picks, images top to bottom, left image then right image: Lover Rosebud Lace Miniskirt and Carven Flare Stretch Cotton Miniskirt both from Net a Porter; Alexander Wang Dress and Dorothy Perkins White Skater Dress; Pour La Victoire Pumps from The Outnet and Carven Paris Print Cotton Dress from My Wardrobe (as seen here on The Cherry Blossom Girl); Reiss Hestia Dress (seen on my blog here) and Maddy Electric Blue Jacket (a sure win to carry you into AW13).

Spring Trends: The 1970s

1970s spring trends isabel marant styleonthecouchIn an effort to re-focus my thoughts on the warmer months despite the ongoing snow showers in the UK this Easter holiday weekend, Blog Reader, I’m starting a series of ‘spring trends’ posts. I’ll be interweaving these with reviews of the catwalk shows I loved for autumn winter 2013 too.

First up, the 1970s, a theme which appeared in many collections including Saint Laurent Paris, Fendi, Gucci and Isabel Marant.  When I think of the 1970s I think of Love Story and Annie Hall; bias cut dresses; black leather; preppy style; trouser suits and layering.  Gucci’s sky blue and pink pairings for spring reminded me too well of the polyester* offerings you can find in charity shops from that era, and Marant’s boho vibe was reminiscent of Woody Harrelson’s outfits in Linklater’s Dazed & Confused….

One part of this trend I particularly admire is the wide-brimmed hats such as those Slimane sent down the catwalk.  I recently bought a fedora from Reiss – sadly no longer available but I’d recommend Borsalino for similar styles.  If you are in London, try Liberty department store for hats, they have a wonderful selection, always.

Here are some 1970s inspired styles, if you like this trend for your summer wardrobe:

Paige Denim flared Lou Lou jeans

A very Saint Laurent Paris – like pussybow blouse from Iris and Ink

This Halston Heritage coral gown.

Paisley babydoll dress from Oysho at ASOS; Warehouse Paisley print dress.

And let’s not forget the big sunglasses – like this Marni pair reduced from 260 to 130 GBP on The Outnet.

*I am, Blog Reader, quite sure that Gucci does not design using polyester by the way.

More spring trends to follow! Have a lovely weekend.

It is, Blog Reader, almost the Easter holiday weekend here in the UK.  To those of you not familiar with UK bank holidays this means two four-day working weeks and a chance to re-charge batteries.  I’m very much looking forward to a visit from my friend Anna from South Molton St Style here in my new country-abode and I’m also doing a fair bit of exploring of my new surroundings too.

Given that I’m in a lovely bank holiday spirit right now I wanted this post to be about some of my favourite things fashion-wise in the shops presently.  First of all, Made By Noemi has become my favourite place to shop for bodysuits and you may have seen designer Noemi Ivanov’s white bodysuit on the blog before (click here for the link).  Her floral body is a piece I wear often.  Currently her Feather Body is high on my wish list – a great loungewear style.

So here you have it, my fashion favourites for your holiday shopping weekend:

Lover are a fabulous Australian based brand whose styles will just blow you away. Check out this amazing flared short lace and sheer dress from their Nocturnal collection.

Reiss’ new spring summer collection for 2013 is a line I’ll be featuring on the blog very soon.  This Portofino jumpsuit caught my eye as a very unique design, also their Lola white quilted fit and flare dress. I love Reiss, I would snap all their collections up in a flash if I could, they are so perfect for work and play.

Finally I’ve been thinking a great deal about shoes this week.  My go-to-shoe-shopping is at Zara and right now their multi-coloured lace up sandals are making me drool….

A little shopping inspiration for your weekend ahead, Blog Reader!
