Gap shirt Urban Outfitters BDG denim styleonthecouch lydia hudgens 7I often find myself missing NYC.  Perhaps because the weather has been so cold in England lately, perhaps because I’m not doing as much traveling as I was doing in the time I was there… but mostly I think it’s the people, the ‘can-do,’ ‘anything-is-possible’ attitude that I miss.  There are a few outfits I wore in fall in NYC that I’m back wearing again in springtime in the UK.  This double-denim set is something of a legend to me. It was my ‘failsafe’ weekend outfit for walks in Central Park (I may have ditched the high heels for my Converse by the time I got off the 6 train on the Upper East Side) and lazy brunches at Mud Coffee House.  I used to love tying the shirt across my stomach like Daisy Duke and how the jeans made me feel all Charlie’s Angels.  My boyfriend and I argue the toss about these jeans ALL the time – they are one of my favourite styles but he does not get high-waists at all.  Anyone else experience that the man doesn’t appreciate the high-waist styles? There must be some interesting psychology here.  Please share below!

Although not technically a double-denim outfit, since the top is a Gap chambray shirt it’s still all kinds of the blue that I love.  My heels are from Nine West, the jeans BDG / Urban Outfitters. I just need a rodeo now.  Just as well I am busy planning a return trip to the US in June hey, Blog Reader?

Friday Lingerie Lust: Stella McCartney & Journelle for Fashion’s Night Out

Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out turns four years old this year.   On September 6th 2012 stylish events will be held all over the world with special offers, limited edition products and guest appearances.

Last September I popped into Journelle‘s SoHo boutique in NYC to join the fun.  This year they have a wonderful event planned in conjunction with Stella McCartney – a chance to preview Stella’s new BASIC line (simply called; ‘Stella’) along with her autumn / winter lingerie collection for 2012.  There will also be the usual fun and games done so wonderfully by Journelle, including competitions to win fabulous prizes.

The new ‘Stella’ line has been created in keeping with McCartney’s eco-conscious focus.  Made from organic cotton and recycled hardware, a series of bra shapes with a multifunctional design are lightweight and reasonably priced (a bra costs $68).  Looking at the preview images I’m already a huge fan of the new shapes and I love that signature details such as the gold rings and logo have been retained in this collection.

I can’t wait to get my hands on this set below:

In conjunction with their Fashion’ Night Out event, the lovely folks at Journelle are offering one lucky StyleOnTheCouch reader a chance to win a pair of Stella McCartney’s ‘tourist knickers’:

In order to take part to win you must either:

1) Mention this competition on Twitter by re-tweeting me and mentioning StyleOnTheCouch and @ShopJournelle (you’ll find me @StyleOnTheCouch) or,

2) Share this competition on Facebook (you’ll find me here).

Just be sure to leave me a comment below to say you’ve done one or two above and leave your email address so I know where to reach you.  The competition is open internationally and the closing date is midnight September 6th. Good luck!

Be sure to visit Journelle if you are in New York City for Fashion’s Night Out this year! Details are in the invitation at the top of this blog post.

Style In The City of Manhattan: Brooklyn Bridge & All Saints Black Dress

Manhattan has an uncanny ability to make me feel like Carrie Bradshaw at times.  The energy is infectious, the people full of spirit – New York City really feels like a place where anything can happen.

I remember arriving in the USA on December 27th 2010 after several huge snowfalls had hit New York.  My first adventures in Manhattan were experienced through the snow, including a walk over the magnificent Brooklyn Bridge where I recall a big feeling of ‘wow’ hitting me as I took in the views of Manhattan and the islands.

Before my trip back to the UK this week, I returned to Brooklyn Bridge with my photographer Lydia to take some new photos of one of my favourite dresses from All Saints.  From their premium collection last year, brought out in time for the party season, I am still in love with the gothic construction and parachute themed styling (an All Saints signature) of this gown.

There is a wonderful Harpers Bazaar cover with Sarah Jessica Parker running on Brooklyn Bridge in a pale blue dress full of layers of chiffon.  I have this print to remind me of my wonderful stay in NYC:

Lots of people have asked me what it was like moving to Manhattan from the UK and living here: Was it amazing? Expensive? Friendly? Unfriendly? Rude even? Would I recommend it? Absolutely.  To quote Carrie Bradshaw again:

If you can only have one great love, then the city just may be mine. And I don’t want nobody talkin’ shit about my boyfriend.”  (Sex and the City TV Series)

I’ll be back for a visit in September, Blog Reader.  I’ve also worked with Lydia on lots of outfit posts over the last month in preparation for my various adventures and travels.

Normal blog service will resume from back in the UK very soon.  I’m excited about my visit.  So pass the crumpets.

Until then!  StyleOnTheCouch xo
