Romanticism meets Sci-Fi: Murmur Clothing

Back in Paris this January I visited the fabulous Mise En Cage boutique where owner Florence Abelin introduced me to lingerie inspired clothing brand Murmur.  It was love at first sight for me with this Marshmallow Bust Harness in black (also available in praline and white), a dream to wear for a dramatic ‘flounce’ over a simple little black dress or as part of a lingerie set.

The harness part of the bra is made from elastic bands with some well placed leather detail.  The flounces on the shoulders are pleated voile – my friend Kim told me they were like ‘wings’ (they are no less heavenly to wear!)  It is such an aesthetically pleasing shape – framing the bust and grabbing your attention at the shoulders. Florence described this piece to me as a little romanticism mixed with a little Sci-Fi – I’m thinking Barbarella-meets-The-Lady-Of-Shallot, a style I can get behind.

Murmur are a wonderfully fashion-forward brand.  I just received some images of their spring summer collection and will be featuring these on a Friday Lingerie Focus post very soon, Blog Reader.  Alongside their mainline collection they recently launched Murmur Takeaway, a youthful diffusion line I’m also looking forward to sharing with you.  In the meantime please do check out their styles here on Mise En Cage.  Click here for the full Murmur website.

With special thanks to William Williams for the photography.

StyleOnTheCouch at Mise En Cage Paris - William Williams Photography

During my recent trip to Paris I had the fantastic opportunity to visit lingerie and boudoir accessories boutique Mise En Cage, the only one of its kind in the city.  Amidst a beautifully chic Parisian apartment filled with antique furniture and retro modern leather chairs and sofas, founder and owner Florence Abelin and her team offer visitors a targeted and private shopping experience.  This intimate space gives prospective buyers the opportunity to explore the excellent range of products Florence has curated – couture lingerie collections, ready-to-wear inspired lingerie and boudoir accessories are displayed temptingly throughout the salon.

You can find some of my favourite brands at Mise En Cage.  Bordelle, Lascivious, Paul Seville (famous corset maker to Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood) and Tamzin Lillywhite (whose Pony Ear Bridle, exclusive to Mise En Cage, I am wearing in this post.)

I also come across some delightful new finds during my visit!  Tania Zekkout is an accessories designer whose creations fashionably blur the line between fetish and stylish.  I love her collarsmade from a mix of leather and muslin. Murmur are a brand who I will feature on StyleOnTheCouch soon.  Attracted to their beautiful bodysuits and bras, Murmur creates daywear and eveningwear for women, viewed through the lens of a powerful eroticism.

You can also find some wonderful gifts at Mise En Cage, perfect for Valentine’s Day.

With thanks to William Williams for the photos.

Be A Bond Girl: Bordelle Swim Collection

When one of my favourite lingerie brands moves into swimwear, you can guarantee a flurry of activity as I book various beach holidays and plot my next move to Capri.  Bordelle, a provocative, dominant and sexy lingerie brand, have designed a collection of swimwear guaranteed to bestow on you immediate Bond Girl status.

Curve enhancing lines, a hint of bondage and inspiration from the likes of Honey Ryder (the bikini-clad entrance of Ursula Andress in Dr No is an unforgettable Bond Girl moment) makes for a stunning collection.

The aptly named Bond-Age bikini set (image top of post) comes with moulded underwire cups and side boning for added structure.  The set comes in three shades: black, ivory and poppy red each with shimmering honey.

For those who prefer a little more coverage, Bordelle have designed several beautiful one pieces, like the Olympia swimsuit (image below).  The piece de resistance however has to be the Bond-Age swimsuit, modeled on the brand’s signature hourglass silhouette and embellished with 18k gold plated hardware and an adjustable elastic overlay.  This piece can be worn in a variety of ways and naturally is high up on my Christmas wish list.

You may not possess a name that is a double entendre, but if you want to be a symbol of glamour and sophistication like a Bond Girl, visit Bordelle swim on their website here.

Bordelle lingerie is also available to buy on their site; in Selfridges; at Coco de Mer and Mise en Cage.
