I had to take a little hiatus from StyleOnTheCouch last week, Blog Reader, as both moving and starting a new job required my full attention…. When I return after a break I tend to choose things to write about that I love and I’m familiar with, hence another in my series of ‘Little Black Dress’ posts.

Nasty Gal aren’t a brand I look at often.  They have such a colourful, cheery and youthful West-Coast style I can admire but that doesn’t work for me.  I’m waaayy too Vampiric-ly pale for that (darn it).  This little black number from the Nasty Gal Fall 2012 collection however, I make an exception for.  The neckline did it for me, the ‘peaked’ front style and the bodice detailing on the back of the dress won me over. I wore it to countless parties and drinks events over the Christmas and New Year holidays – it looks great with my Helmut Lang leather jacket and my new metallic clutch from Kzeniya.

Current Nasty Gal favourites:

Jet Romper

Kick Push Dress

Harness Bodysuit

I should also start a campaign to get them to restock this stunning little black number (as seen here on The Londoner) that I had on my wish list for ages…

Alice Yim Raina Dress & Autumn Winter 2012 Collection

Hot on the heels of Peter Pilotto’s spring prints yesterday comes today’s outfit post showing Alice Yim’s Raina dress.  One of the few designers I take a break from my monochromatic norm for, Yim’s Raina dress (featured before on the blog in black, image below) also comes in a delicate dragonfly print, a theme running through her spring collection this year.

The Raina dress is a beautifully classic design in the onyx (black) colour yet the print version transports the dress into the romantic and ethereal category.  This is a perfect dress for the end of summer – the last rays of warmth, the last crisp but sunny evenings outside…

As we move towards autumn, Alice Yim’s collection for winter 2012/13 provides some good transitional options.  A palette of neutral tones, rusty browns, navy and black is broken up by the melancholia print – circular swirls set amongst a fabric dreamscape.  (Click on the image below to enlarge.)  My favourite pieces are the Pia wool and leather vest and the Lucia blouse – a long-sleeved silk Georgette top with lace shoulders.

A high quality collection of leather, wool and lace with masculine overtones – I’m ready to step out of silky Raina and into autumn textures already.  Another lovely collection from Alice Yim NYC.

Graphic Tees, Fashion Blogging, Passions & Friendships

I have to credit this blog for two key things.  First of all this blog is a wonderful hobby, a base from which I can research and live my passion for fashion and style.  I remain a Psychologist and doctor first and foremost (a side of me you don’t often see here because the blog’s purpose was to give me an interest away from this other great love of mine).  The second is friendships.  As StyleOnTheCouch has grown I’ve been fortunate to make new friends not just in England and the US but across the world.  Amazing.

In this feature I’m joined by my blogger friend the lovely Christina of Profresh Style.  Christina’s blog is full of personality and colour.  She’s one of my favourite examples of a writer who puts her heart and soul into her blog – check out her recent post on her changing attitudes to fashion blogging here.  We worked independently at styling graphic tees for this and came out interestingly coordinated as a result! I wish I could claim credit for my own styling however my tee is borrowed from our photographer the lovely Lydia Hudgens.

Whilst I’ve often thought my blog could easily be named ‘Sarah’s Dresses’* I realize that I feel just as at home in my staple of skinny jeans and a tee.  As my wardrobe moves further towards being entirely that of black, white and denim, these photos are a nice reminder to me to explore my casual side more, here.

I’m heading back to NYC tomorrow for a visit, Blog Reader.  You can follow my antics on Twitter (@StyleOnTheCouch) and Instagram (same name) but you can also check back for my September fashion week series which will continue whilst I’m in Manhattan.

Thank you to Christina for joining me in this post, to Lydia Hudgens for the photos and as always, thank you, Blog Reader, for stopping by.
