Murmur Clothing Lingerie Inspired Fashion StyleOnTheCouchIf you follow me on Instagram, Blog Reader, you may have noticed an influx of photos related to Murmur.  These images here are from Murmur’s new Hellcat collection, a stunning retro-lingerie-inspired range of dresses and accessories for spring summer 2013.  Hellcat includes some wonderful statement pieces: the bold wedding dresses and the erotic harnesses. My favourite, shown in the third image here, is the white corseted suspender belt.

Romanticism meets Sci-Fi: Murmur Clothing

Murmur Clothing Harness Bra William Williams Photography

Back in Paris this January I visited the fabulous Mise En Cage boutique where owner Florence Abelin introduced me to lingerie inspired clothing brand Murmur.  It was love at first sight for me with this Marshmallow Bust Harness in black (also available in praline and white), a dream to wear for a dramatic ‘flounce’ over a simple little black dress or as part of a lingerie set.

The harness part of the bra is made from elastic bands with some well placed leather detail.  The flounces on the shoulders are pleated voile – my friend Kim told me they were like ‘wings’ (they are no less heavenly to wear!)  It is such an aesthetically pleasing shape – framing the bust and grabbing your attention at the shoulders. Florence described this piece to me as a little romanticism mixed with a little Sci-Fi – I’m thinking Barbarella-meets-The-Lady-Of-Shallot, a style I can get behind.

Murmur are a wonderfully fashion-forward brand.  I just received some images of their spring summer collection and will be featuring these on a Friday Lingerie Focus post very soon, Blog Reader.  Alongside their mainline collection they recently launched Murmur Takeaway, a youthful diffusion line I’m also looking forward to sharing with you.  In the meantime please do check out their styles here on Mise En Cage.  Click here for the full Murmur website.

With special thanks to William Williams for the photography.

New York Fashion Week Series: 4. Victoria Beckham SS13

Fresh and feminine body conscious dresses, block colour simplicity, a little lingerie inspiration and the introduction of separates (bias cut skirts and short shorts). I have to give it to Victoria Beckham I really like how she is evolving as a designer.

I had expected to see another collection of fitted dress after fitted shift dress but I liked the new separates and had a surprising amount of affection for the A line skirts – styles that usually terrify me as they remind me of badly fitted school uniform days*.  A little sporty perhaps and very aesthetically pleasing with the geometric influences running throughout (I like that kind of structure) – Victoria Beckham SS13 was a hit with me.

Beckham still included dresses within the collection; my favourite was a nude dress with bodice detail (image top) like a second skin against the body.  Another favourite (image below) – a crisp white dress with broderie anglaise cotton sections cut around the chest.  Because of the simplicity in the designs this season, I felt Beckham was a wearable collection indeed.

*Mum if you are reading this, this is not your fault. I merely blame my school for their choices, especially those awful blazers.
