Tamzin Lillywhite, Blog Reader, is one of the most intriguing leather accessories designers I know of.  Her accessories have graced countless fashion publications – handmade from start to finish in England they boast a fabulous design quality.

For autumn winter 2012 Lillywhite’s collection showed a Joan of Arc, Statue of Liberty-esque theme.  Leather corsets, spiked crowns and cross body bags (akin to a quiver for holding arrows) denote a tough yet feminine armour for the wearer.  Actually Tamzin’s bags are some of my favourite pieces from her collections overall, beginning with her very first range in 2011.

This skirt-harness from Tamzin Lillywhite was a piece I noticed in the HPR London showroom at their Press preview day.  I love the drama of the design and how the back of it sits over a style like this fishtail-like dress from BCBG Max Azria. As an introduction to the designer I hope these images encourage you to check her out in more detail – her chokers and cuffs especially make lovely gifts for anyone who leans towards this particular style.

Happy Sunday, Blog Reader.  Today I have to get my warrior-woman on for the gym (it’s always a struggle to get active at weekends…) there may be some St Patrick’s day celebrations after – happy St Paddy’s Day everyone!

Leather Jacket, Vintage Tee & Cambridge Satchel

Investing in this leather jacket by Helmut Lang was one of my most spine tingling yet efficient purchases last year back in NYC.  An investment piece, this jacket pretty much comes everywhere with me.  I wear it over dresses and shirts (it has been blogged to death as you may well know, Blog Reader) but what I love the most is pairing it with a vintage tee – mixing old and new together.

I will confess that I used to be of the opinion that mixing old and new meant ‘want to buy all designer, can’t afford it, but hey ain’t I cool anyway’.  My view of that has changed.  It seems very individual to mix vintage and designer pieces of your choice and a mark of great style to look good in doing so.  I’ve paired my Helmut Lang jacket here with a vintage sports tee from an awesome boutique in Charleston, The Vault.

There is a phenomenal amount of leather around in the shops right now.  This fabric remains key for spring summer 13 and my advice would be to invest in one really great leather piece, like this dress from Reiss, a statement bag from Fleet Ilya or even this faux-leather tee from H&M.  I also can’t let this post go by without mentioning my trusty satchel from The Cambridge Satchel Co. here.  Another key leather piece, these bags make perfect gifts in the new metallic shades.  Pop one on your Christmas wish list!

Summer Dressing: Arden B. Maxi, Freddie & Cinnamon Bracelet and Lancelot Knight Leather Barrel Bag

This outfit post pretty much sums up all my current obsessions; the things I have been wearing to death this summer.  This Arden B maxi dress is such a pretty style… for starters it seems to make me look 5ft 10 tall (ten points below if anyone knows about optical illusions and can tell me why – is it the way the stripes sit?!) and the back detail with little cascading frills is super cute.

When it comes to handbags, my favourites are classic, structured forms.  My biscuit coloured barrel bag gave up the ghost recently so I was incredibly happy when the lovely folks at Lancelot Knight contacted me about their collection of barrel shapes in pastel and neon shades.  They gifted me this leather baby pink Avon Barrel bag which is a perfect match for my lighter summer outfits.  It also has a longer shoulder strap, detachable and adjustable (not seen here).

I think one of the reasons I love this bag so much is a question of size as well as shape.  I need to fit my life in a bag and whilst my ‘summer life’ is considerably lighter on ‘stuff’ than my winter life – this fits my diary, iPhone and retro headphones, make-up for touching up, wallet / keys, camera and umbrella (yes I carry one everywhere I am well and truly English in this respect) whilst still looking that little bit on the dainty side….

I’m still working on my accessories too, Blog Reader. I came across the delightful contemporary jewelry brand Freddie & Cinnamon not long ago and their styles appealed to me because they are classic pieces at great value.  I’ll be featuring their collection on the blog very soon along with a Q&A with their founder / designer.  Here I am wearing their Chain Gold Plated Bracelet, a delicate and graceful strand of interconnected circles, on my wrist.  It’s one of those pieces I’ve worn over and over.

A summer outfit for a summer’s day, Blog Reader. Hope you are well, I’m currently taking a break back in England and enjoying being in the countryside for a while.  You can see some of my pictures on instagram: @StyleOnTheCouch. Have a lovely weekend, StyleOnTheCouch xo
