Nike tee and denim shorts styleonthecouchThe weather in England is pretty amazing right now, Blog Reader.  Fully expecting to be back in my wellies and winter coat when I returned from Georgia, here I am instead in my denim shorts this weekend!

The first weeks after a wedding are kinda weird. You are still filled with the glow of happiness but the return to reality sets in – I’ve had a really busy first week back at work and the jet lag hasn’t helped!  This weekend I finally felt I could press the reset button. I stocked up on nice food (with some recommendations from my fitness and nutrition guru Charli Cohen, more on her on the blog next month) and my usual favourite treats (champagne and macarons, what else?!) and hit the gym hard. I clearly don’t want summer to end, so thank you English weather for playing along.

Lots of new stuff coming on the blog over the next few weeks, Blog Reader! I have some accessories and style posts, including the second dress I wore at my wedding, from DKNY.  New designer features too.  You may have noticed Friday Lingerie Lust returned this week and will be continuing with new collections from innovative lingerie and boudoir accessories brands. I’m also beginning a new fitness thread on StyleOnTheCouch as my gym wear is becoming as important as my day-to-day style lately.  For me the right workout gear gets me moving every time. Try it – I have some great fitness recommendations for you coming up in October.

Wearing: Nike tee, Dick’s Sporting Goods (somewhat of a mecca for me in the States for work out gear!); denim shorts, Hollister (I am too old to shop in this place but I have to say these shorts fit me perfectly); holding Helmut Lang leather jacket.

I believe in kissing, kissing a lot.  I believe in being strong when everything goes wrong. I believe that the happiest girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day. And I believe in miracles.” – Audrey Hepburn

Undoubtedly my new Jimmy Choo pumps would get a big thumbs up from Audrey.  They certainly make me feel happy! I get lots of questions about these shoes when I wear them (along with raised eyebrows of surprise I am stepping out, quite literally, in colour.)

I love to style them with my favourite black pieces and have the eye drawn to my feet; here I’m wearing my Helmut Lang leather jacket (are you tired of seeing this yet? No? Good, me neither!) Gap skinnies and simple tee from ASOS.  Sunglasses are once again stolen from American Boyfriend because let’s be honest, Jimmy Choo plus Gucci is a pretty feel good factor all round :)

These Anouk pumps from Choo are beautifully curved with a 4.8 inch heel height.  For those of you stiletto geeks it is a truly well proportioned shoe, something Choo must know well as the style is available in many different colours. I’m a huge fan of the silver pump in metallic leather and the jade green snakeskin effect pair.  If you can’t stretch to Choo prices then check out LKBennett for similar styles – my friend Anna of South Molton St Style models a fabulous pair of their green pumps HERE.

Chiffon and Leather: Helmut Lang and Mango

Greetings from Manhattan, Blog Reader!  I’m back in New York City after a wonderful vacation in Texas and a lot of fun with friends old and new.  In Austin I had the chance to work with Red Rogue Studio, I met the amazing photographer William Williams (he recently shot a fabulous campaign for Uniform Union by LoyandFord which you can see here) and I caught up with Ashley of Teddies for Bettys, a favourite lingerie boutique of mine.

Back in NYC, I’m leaving behind the denim shorts and cropped tees I wore in Austin and returning to a downtown vibe with black chiffon and leather.

There are a few labels that really set my heart racing.  Some of them I am sure you could guess, Blog Reader: I covet Preen for Thornton and Bregazzi’s sophistication and their wonderfully modern and feminine silhouettes. I adore Rodarte for romance.  With Helmut Lang I crave their cool, urban vibe.  There is a great consistency in the collections of Helmut Lang, something I admire.  In pre-fall this year, the sharp shouldered jackets got my attention and I decided to invest in a leather style (well, part present, part gift to self) that I knew I would wear for years. The jacket works really well with dresses as well as trousers and that was my one requirement for such a piece.  I adore the snug fit and the asymmetric, draped style – a Lang signature.

This 70s style black maxi dress was part of Mango‘s summer collection for 2012, the editorial for which featured Kate Moss, shot by Terry Richardson.  I really liked the summer collection, a mix of sharp tailoring, sports-inspired separates and voluminous dresses.   Going back to this collection today reminded me yet again how simple and chic monochrome can be.  I’m working on the all white look next, with the shot of Kate, below left, as my inspiration:

Watch this space, Blog Reader, watch this space!

Thanks to all who kept up with my adventures in Texas! Normal blogging service resumes.  Tell me, Blog Reader, which pieces have you invested in, that have truly stood up to the test of time?
