In an interview with Style.com, Ines de la Fressange, author of one of my favourite books; style guide ‘Parisian Chic‘ said ‘there are never really fashion victims in Paris’.  She was making the point that the effortless chic we understand French women to possess does not come from buying into current trends or brand new pieces but rather from the philosophy of never really seeming too interested in fashion and staying true to the belief that ‘less is more’. The less being about quality and retaining wardrobe classics throughout the seasons and years.

Fifi Chachnil, French designer of lingerie and pret a porter, clearly agrees with Ines de la Fressange.  She has the most delightful line of ready to wear, includes skirts and dresses that make a woman feel impeccable in all circumstances and in no time at all.  Here I’m wearing her orange babyloo and skirt for an evening out in Paris earlier this month.  An absolute delight to wear – made from 100% silk (polka dot chiffon) if Fifi’s designs do not inspire you to fall in love in The City of Light then I don’t know what will.

I absolutely loved being in Paris for New Year.  I have a few more photos from the holiday to post soon, Blog Reader.  I admit that so far the rest of January has involved trying to recreate aspects of that trip – cue visits to London’s Laduree and much reading of French travel guides! I hope to be back there very soon to see more of the city.

Just Rompin’ Around: Zinke Intimates (Brooks Romper)

Not that you would know it, Blog Reader, but I actually have a tan in this outfit post.  Yes indeed (shock, horror) – whilst to the rest of Austin I may appear ‘English rose’* (the freckles are just about to peep through) I’m actually mildly bronzed after a few weeks in the Texan sun. Hurrah!

This outfit post shows another of my typical weekend-in-Austin styles.  I’m still finding it hard to keep cool when needing to go out and about but this Brooks Romper from Zinke intimates is great.  I wear it a lot with my high-waisted shorts from Topshop and it’s perfect for layering – I throw a cardigan or sweater over it in the evenings (if at all, it was 88 degrees again here today!)

It is available in four colours (navy, henna {mine}, black and blush) has adjustable straps and a pretty criss cross back.  Made of crepe de chine – a lightweight fabric which gives it quite an opulent look with its glossy yet subtle texture – it has a lovely luxe feel against the skin.

My friend Lindsay of the blog That Je Ne Sais Quoi (you may have seen her guest posting here on StyleOnTheCouch about lingerie) attended the Zinke sample sale in NYC last week and picked up a few gorgeous pieces for me to style:

From left to right: the XOXO Romper, cropped top and Drew Cami in black. I’m thinking of putting together a little outfit for Austin City Limits tomorrow from this set here.  A little silk, a little denim – I’ll be good to go.  Thanks Lindsay!

Have a great weekend Blog Reader! And if you’re in town for Austin City Limits, enjoy!

My Life in Shorts: Urban Outfitters Denim, Zara Tee & Austin City Guide Part Two

Even in October here in Austin it is still shorts weather.  Quite unbelievable in fact that yesterday I was by the pool sunbathing, whilst in the UK I would be indoors in the pub and plotting my next winter coat purchase.  These Urban Outfitters shorts are crazily short shorts but I kinda love the high-rise styling of them.  Available in four different denim shades (blue, black, vintage dark and multi) they ain’t called cheeky shorts for no reason.

In this feature, I bring you part two of my Austin City Guide (read part one here) where I’m sharing more of my favourite new finds in the city.

Boutiques:

Stag Austin – 1423 South Congress Ave. (Image below).  Most of the guys I know who have visited Austin rave about this place.  Menswear: “part clothing, part antique, part gift, part apothecary” the website will tell you, Stag have an excellent selection of brands fit for a style icon like Steve McQueen.  Fantastic blog too – they just published an excellent Autumn essentials series.

By George – 1400 South Congress Ave.  The curator of this SoCo boutique has brought together many great brands under one roof.  Here you will find Steve Alan, Helmut Lang, Isabel Marant, Equipment and more. With a sister store at Lamar (524 North Lamar) named one of the country’s top ten boutiques by Lucky Magazine, By George is another must visit. Customer service gets 11 out of ten from me.

Bars and Restaurants:

Doc’s Motorworks –  1223 South Congress Ave. The daily specials (1/2 price burgers on Mondays, $1 tacos on Wednesday) have me feeling glad that this place is my new local.  Go hang out with the cool dudes with motorcycles on Thursday ‘bike nite’.
Home Slice Pizza – 1415 South Congress Ave.  New York style pizza by the slice or pie. Totally yummy and perfect after a few drinks on South Congress.
Jo’s Coffee – 1300 South Congress Ave / 242 West Second Street.  You’ll likely find me here at Jo’s Coffee, Americano in hand, blogging.  The porch at their SoCo location is a perfect place to hang out – try one of their tasty breakfast tacos or the South Austin speedball (longneck beer and cup of coffee).  With jazz at weekend brunch and Monday night movies, you’ll want to move in here.
