Fifi Chachnil Lingerie and Ready to Wear StyleOnTheCouch William Williams PhotographyWith my quality-over-quantity shopping philosophy this year, Blog Reader, pieces from Fifi Chachnil‘s Ready To Wear collection have been the very best investment. You may have seen Fifi’s high-waist pencil skirt on the blog before (here in the purple colour) but the black colour is my favourite and it’s a perfect foundation for a high quality capsule wardrobe.  I’m wearing this black ‘Francette’ skirt here with Fifi’s cosy warm Angora cardigan.  Every time I put this cardigan on it is so hard to take off because it feels amazing against my skin.  This cardigan comes in several coloursred, emerald green and bright pink included.  I almost wish Fifi did a longer version of this cardigan to wrap myself up in, but on the other hand the retro styling goes well with many of my spring dresses with a fit and flare and the copious amounts of high-waist denim I have in my wardrobe.  With Mad Men returning soon for another series, I predict a resurgence of interest in these styles.

Thank you to Fifi for making my weekends feel so good!

*If you have concerns about the ethical nature of Angora - be reassured that Fifi’s wool comes from the lovingly brushed fur of Angora bunny rabbits that frolic freely through the fields of Normandy, France.

The ‘Francette‘ skirt from Fifi Chachnil‘s superb ready-to-wear collection is one of my favourite designs for adding a touch of retro glamour to a wardrobe.  This structured, high-waisted piece is designed in pencil style.  It sits perfectly on the hips and cinches in the waist for a super flattering, feminine shape. Between the waist section and the top of the skirt that sits underneath the bust, there is some boning to give a little extra support and that bodice-like ’held’ and secure feeling.  The two little bows around the waistline show designer Fifi Chachnil’s touch – in a previous interview on the site she talked about wanting to create an essence of pure femininity in her beautiful lingerie and pret-a-porter… you can’t help but smile and feel good when wearing her designs! This outfit makes me want to take a holiday back in Paris; dance on the cobbled streets and dine al fresco in the sun…. Who wants to wander the regal gardens of The Louvre with me?

In an interview with Style.com, Ines de la Fressange, author of one of my favourite books; style guide ‘Parisian Chic‘ said ‘there are never really fashion victims in Paris’.  She was making the point that the effortless chic we understand French women to possess does not come from buying into current trends or brand new pieces but rather from the philosophy of never really seeming too interested in fashion and staying true to the belief that ‘less is more’. The less being about quality and retaining wardrobe classics throughout the seasons and years.

Fifi Chachnil, French designer of lingerie and pret a porter, clearly agrees with Ines de la Fressange.  She has the most delightful line of ready to wear, includes skirts and dresses that make a woman feel impeccable in all circumstances and in no time at all.  Here I’m wearing her orange babyloo and skirt for an evening out in Paris earlier this month.  An absolute delight to wear – made from 100% silk (polka dot chiffon) if Fifi’s designs do not inspire you to fall in love in The City of Light then I don’t know what will.

I absolutely loved being in Paris for New Year.  I have a few more photos from the holiday to post soon, Blog Reader.  I admit that so far the rest of January has involved trying to recreate aspects of that trip – cue visits to London’s Laduree and much reading of French travel guides! I hope to be back there very soon to see more of the city.
