Under The Sea.

The spring collections at Versace, Holly Fulton and Chanel all shared an under the sea theme.  I also appear to be having an aquatic moment – drawn to all things green and blue I found this gorgeous form fitting midi lace dress from ASOS and couldn’t be happier with the style and colour.

The dress has cute capped sleeves and a scooped back. The lace floral effect fabric turns delicately semi-sheer at the neckline which gives the dress some interesting texture. I love it – I had to stop myself buying it in all three shades (black and pink in addition to the green here).

When I was thinking of shoes to wear with the dress the obvious choice was my nude pumps, but then I had a re-think.  I decided to go all out blue hue with my sapphire pumps from Nine West – a Christmas present from my big sister.  These peep toed shoes with scalloped edge (continuing the under the sea theme, no?!) are aptly called ‘feelngood’ – despite a heel height of 4 1/2 inches, feel good they do.

Curls and Kimonos….

Both the last two weekends here in NYC have been lovely.  My birthday weekend was filled with fun things to do.  Thanksgiving was very relaxing and a chance to reflect that I’m grateful for all the amazing people I have met here in America as well as for friends who have continued to write, email, Skype and chat with me from back home.

In the manner of relaxation, I have this amazing kimono style dress/jacket from Topshop that I adore for its throw-on-simplicity and chic minimalism.  I can wear it tightly wrapped around at the waist, more loosely wrapped to give an ooh la la side split, or open as a jacket over jeans.  It was found for me by Topshop’s personal shopping service in SoHo NYC – a service I hadn’t intended to use, but the shop wasn’t busy and they were very obliging. I also got some great style tips from them during my impromptu visit and they even have mini cupcakes, so points all round!

Sadly since my shopping trip I have not been able to find this exact same style online.  This silk wrap dress is a close and very elegant match, however.

Alexander Wang in the Sand…

Another of my favourite outfit photos from my recent travels, taken at the sand dunes in Death Valley National Park, this T by Alexander Wang dress was purchased at one of my favourite East Village boutiques, Pas De Deux

The sister to next door neighbour and menswear retailer Odin, Pas De Deux has the most fantastic staff who always point me in the right direction of whatever I am looking for.  The boutique is a delightful space that stocks select items from Isabel Marant and 3.1 Phillip Lim along with Wang and others.  I purchased this stripe knit dress from the Pre-Fall 2011 collection not just for my trip but because it was something I could see working through to winter with some black tights and a fitted blazer

A breathtaking scene in Death Valley, I took these photos against the backdrop of the Mesquite sand dunes with the black mountains in the distance.  I have some beautiful pictures of other locations in the Park – the protected salt flats and the sunset at Dante’s View that I will post on the blog later on

I love the asymmetrical hemline of this dress.  I’m considering buying a longer sleeved version in black too. If you’re a fan like me then check out Net-a-porter. The site has several of these styles in stock right now:

You can also buy from Barneys NY, Selfridges in the UK and of course – online at Alexander Wang.  It’s perfectly elegant casual-wear (a bit of an oxymoron, I know, but so much my style,) for all times of the year.
