Summer sale picks reissI spent a remarkable amount of time browsing summer sales this weekend, Blog Reader.  Whilst I may mostly have been dreaming (or should I say, drooling) of that special piece from Erdem or Peter Pilotto to take with me on honeymoon later this year, I did remember that summer sales are an excellent time to make investments on show stopping or classic pieces that will carry you into the fashion future and never get ‘old’.

First things first though, a little summer sales advice (especially of the online variety).

1. Make a plan – If you haven’t got many special events on this year, nor does your wardrobe resemble that of Daphne Guinness, that spectacular dress or gown might be a waste of your hard earned cash. Repeat this mantra several times just so you get it, Blog Reader. Decide what you want to invest in at a bargain price and stick with it.

2. Buy double – if you really haven’t found that perfect pair of slim fit black trousers and you stumble across the perfect pair in the sale, you may want to think about buying too. Some great bargains don’t often come round again…

3. Remember your body type and style aesthetic – summer sales (or any sales for that matter) are not times to experiment with fashion.  Stick to what you know and what you know works for you. That McQueen jumpsuit, whilst an absolute bargain, may not reaaaally be your thing.

So. Without further ado, some of my favourite sales on presently:

I agree. However some tips on not appearing like a three year old version of yourself; add a low or high heel; roll them up and keep them baggy!  You are now ready to rock your dungarees…

Ballerina Blue: ASOS Body Con Midi Dress in Austin, Texas

Greetings from Austin, Blog Reader!  Recent travels have led me to Texas, meaning another wardrobe change and a few (um, major) adjustments to the heat and humidity.  Austin is an amazing city, full of great music, great food and shopping gems like Stag and Goorin Bros. which I’ll be sharing with you over the next few weeks.

Just before I arrived here I bought a few basic dresses from ASOS (ASOS: As Seen On Screen) for my day-to-day being out and about in the city.  Despite it being the end of summer the sun is blazing here and the temperature has been 100F (you’ll be seeing a lot of hats on StyleOnTheCouch, Blog Reader, as I try to find ways to protect my English-near-transculent-skin from the sunshine!)

This body conscious midi dress in blue has been a staple for evenings relaxing on the balcony, mornings over at Jo’s Coffee (picture, below) and my near habitual runs over to Amy’s Ice-creams.

The dress is a very simple fitted style with a ballerina / leotard detail around the neckline.  It comes in black, cream and pale blue.

It’s a simple dress for some simple Austin, Texas living.  And now if you’ll excuse me, Blog Reader, I must return to the pool…. :-)
