Get Busy, Get Shorty: eBay Denim Charity Auction

Denim Auction Save The Children eBay Jeans for Genes StyleonthecouchWith summer in full swing here in sunny England, it feels like the perfect time to get involved in the eBay charity auction for Jeans for Genes Day to celebrate denim.  eBay recently commissioned a research study to find out Britain’s best-loved fashion item of all time and skinny jeans came top, even beating classics such as the little black dress (shock, horror!).  39% of the women said that tops make up the majority of their wardrobe, followed by over a quarter (26%) identifying jeans as the piece of clothing that they own the most of. Two thirds (63%) said that a pair of jeans are the item of clothing that they wear most regularly and 84% of recipients agree that jeans are a classic wardrobe staple. Other loved fashion items to make the top 30 list were ballet pumps and a classic denim jacket.

Emily Kerr, UK head of fashion, eBay says: “Jeans are a fashion staple that have well and truly stood the test of time. Skinny jeans are a modern twist on the traditional style of jean, but that just shows how the shape and cut of jeans has varied over the decades. There are currently over 678,000 live listings of jeans on eBay.co.uk from fashion retailers such as French Connection, Superdry, House of Fraser and smaller businesses as well as vintage pieces from consumer sellers.  Over 80,000 of these jeans are in the nation’s favourite skinny style.”

In honor of the auction, I did a little home DIY this week with a pair of denim shorts bought on eBay.co.uk – and followed a little tutorial from one of my favourite bloggers ISpyDIY using fabric paint and some sew on jewels.  eBay have a wide selection of denim on offer right now, including customisation and vintage pieces. It reminded me of some pieces I could submit to the sale.  You can help Jeans for Genes Day by submitting your own styles to the auction too and donating 10-100% of your final sale value to the charity.  I really hope you’ll think of getting involved, Blog Reader. Have a lovely, denim filled weekend! StyleOnTheCouch xo

Just Rompin’ Around: Zinke Intimates (Brooks Romper)

Not that you would know it, Blog Reader, but I actually have a tan in this outfit post.  Yes indeed (shock, horror) – whilst to the rest of Austin I may appear ‘English rose’* (the freckles are just about to peep through) I’m actually mildly bronzed after a few weeks in the Texan sun. Hurrah!

This outfit post shows another of my typical weekend-in-Austin styles.  I’m still finding it hard to keep cool when needing to go out and about but this Brooks Romper from Zinke intimates is great.  I wear it a lot with my high-waisted shorts from Topshop and it’s perfect for layering – I throw a cardigan or sweater over it in the evenings (if at all, it was 88 degrees again here today!)

It is available in four colours (navy, henna {mine}, black and blush) has adjustable straps and a pretty criss cross back.  Made of crepe de chine – a lightweight fabric which gives it quite an opulent look with its glossy yet subtle texture – it has a lovely luxe feel against the skin.

My friend Lindsay of the blog That Je Ne Sais Quoi (you may have seen her guest posting here on StyleOnTheCouch about lingerie) attended the Zinke sample sale in NYC last week and picked up a few gorgeous pieces for me to style:

From left to right: the XOXO Romper, cropped top and Drew Cami in black. I’m thinking of putting together a little outfit for Austin City Limits tomorrow from this set here.  A little silk, a little denim – I’ll be good to go.  Thanks Lindsay!

Have a great weekend Blog Reader! And if you’re in town for Austin City Limits, enjoy!

Wearing: Brooks Romper from Zinke; Sunglasses, GUESS.  Shorts, Topshop.

Poolside in Austin, Texas & Austin City Guide Part One

After a week in NYC, I’m now back in Austin, Texas.  Although I was just recently talking about fall wardrobes, I’m not in need of that quiiite yet, Blog Reader.  The temperature in the state of Texas remains in the 80s this month (that’s 30 degrees to you, Europe!) so here I am, in a typical Austin weekend outfit – denim cut offs, simple tee, sunglasses and sandals*.

Austin is an amazing city.  The weather is insanely gorgeous and the people here are so welcoming.  You’ll have seen snapshots, outfits and lots of travel tips from my trips to Austin over the past year but below I’ve put together a list of some of my favourite boutiques, bars and restaurants for part one of this week’s Austin City Guide:

Boutiques:

Co-Star Style 1708 S. Congress | 512.912.7970 – menswear and womenswear.  I was excited to find that they stock G Star Raw and J Crew, plus their range of sunglasses styles is excellent.
Feathers Vintage Boutique  1700b South Congress Ave | 512.912.9779 – sister store to Moss Austin (who you can read about here) this place has some amazing biker tees and enough accessories for you to put together a whole outfit before you leave the boutique.
Teddies for Bettys 211 West 2nd Street | 512.614.2103 – how happy am I that I can still get my lingerie fix in Ashley’s boutique.  Ashley’s blog keeps you in the know about in store events (DJs, champagne and cupcakes reign supreme here) plus she shares her expert knowledge on lingerie styling and current inspirations.  A must visit!

Bars/Restaurants:

Guero’s Taco Bar 1411 South Congress Ave | 512.447.7688 – an outdoor bar area playing live music several nights a week.  Grab one of their speciality margaritas and stay a while, especially on Wednesdays when Texas Music Radio live broadcasts from the garden.
Easy Tiger Bake Shop and Beer Garden 709 East Sixth Street | 512.614.4972 – when I am missing NYC I can get my pretzel fix here, but really you come for the sausages and extensive drinks menu.  Absolutely try the Merguez and drink yourself under the table with their list of amazing brews.
Wearing: Denim (short) shorts, Urban Outfitters.  Sandals, Nine West.  Tee, Marks and Spencer.  Sunglasses, GUESS.

I’ll be posting part two of my guide later in the week, Blog Reader. Do visit!
