I’m very excited to launch my series of features about hair on StyleOnTheCouch. When it comes to my hair, Blog Reader, I’m fiercely protective about my locks and passionate about keeping them in good condition. My identity is kinda linked to my hair – if there happens to be more than one Sarah in my group, I’m easily differentiated by being ‘the one with the (big, curly) hair’. I’ll likely eschew a manicure or a massage in favour of a blow dry because in my mind, a good hair day is a good day all round.
This weekend, Blog Reader, I took the opportunity to sort through my wardrobe. Space in Manhattan being limited (and not being blessed with a Carrie Bradshaw walk in closet) I do this every so often to find new combinations and styles within the clothing / accessories I own. I also made a mental list* of the pieces I would like to take back to Europe with me in a couple of weeks.
I found this striped dress I bought at Urban Outfitters last summer – I wore it a great deal during my road trip around the west coast of America (you can read those travel posts here, here and here) but for some reason it never made it on StyleOnTheCouch back then…. it’s a simple striped style with a flattering scoop neckline and a cute little skirt split** at the front.
The label in the dress is Lazerade by Veda, a brand I’ve been able to find out relatively little about so if you’re familiar with it, please leave me a comment below! Sunday was a lovely warm day in the city, perfect for a little walk around the East Village to visit some of my favourite shops. I also caught up on my writing, I’ve got some great features coming up this week – two new collections I’m super excited about and a style inspiration feature too.
Hope you had a fabulous weekend! xo
Wearing: Lazerade by Veda Rosemary Dress, Urban Outfitters; Heels, Zara (no longer available but similar here); Scallop Edge Cross Body Satchel (available only in Lilac), ASOS; Fluoro Skinny Belt, also ASOS.
*As opposed to an actual list. I’m not that organised.
**Yes, Blog Reader, we can indeed call the last photo ‘Sarah’s Leg’.
Easter weekend in Manhattan was a bright and sunny affair – we’re still edging into spring but the temperature on Sunday was quite glorious. I spent the afternoon in Central Park with a friend and I also caught up on the collections I’m dying to wear this summer. Petiole is one of these. I wrote about them back in January - timeless, wearable and romantic garments that make an easy transition from day into night. For spring 2012 the label have introduced a lovely colour palette of lavender, grass-green, mango and neutrals for their collection of dresses and skirts, shorts and rompers:
My favourite pieces from Petiole are undoubtedly the silk dresses. They have a wonderful feel on the skin and lovely movement – Petiole use crepe de chine and reverse charmeuse, the latter is often used for lingerie.
Romantic dresses such as these require romantic hair. I was lucky to work with hair stylist Ashley Maybruck for this shoot, who I met after seeing her styling within the September fashion week presentation for designer Morgan Carper. Along with styling my hair we talked about hair trends for summer 2012 and Ashley gave me her insider knowledge on curls. She also provided some tips and hints on how to recreate different looks – her thoughts are below….
