Jimmy Choo Heels StyleOnTheCouch

statement shoesThe allure of my hot pink Jimmy Choo Anouk heels never seems to fade.  I’ve always been lagging behind most girls I know when it comes to shoe collections* but I am trying, Blog Reader, to slowly catch up. It’s also amazing how packing for a three-week trip makes you start prioritising in the fashion department.

A pair of statement heels, I am learning, goes a long way.  I could live a life in monochrome but accessories and shoes then become key.  A capsule collection of some simple dresses with statement shoes is my new best friend for this upcoming trip.  So in this post I was feeling inspired to share my six favourite ‘statement heels’ of the moment. If you have time, be sure to check out Shoes Of Prey  where you can play with a variety of shoe types and fabrics to design your own heels and feel a little Carrie Bradshaw in the process.

Lots of posts to come over the next week, Blog Reader!! Then I’ll be taking a little blog break as I head back to the States for a few weeks. You can still follow my adventures on Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram.

*Seriously.  My mantra used to be ‘I don’t do expensive for anything that hits the ground regularly.’ Then I realised people with expensive bags just gave them an extra seat at the dinner table.

Fleet Ilya Diamond Body Piece: Harness Style

A body harness is a key theme for spring summer 2013 according to the recent fashion weeks.  Jason Wu, Herve Leger and BCBGMaxAzria (image far below) all featured such looks within their collection, much to my joy having been a fan of accessorizing this way for a while now.  In this post I’m wearing my new diamond body piece by Fleet Ilya, who have a wide range of harnesses from a simple, thin leather style that sits around the waist and crosses at the back, to a more complicated ‘web’ design that buckles around the neck, waist and ribcage (here) and everything in between.

Below: some of Fleet Ilya’s designs from the web and in the press

I’ve spoken on the blog before about how Fleet Ilya blur the line between leather bondage and fashion accessories with their collection.  I think the harnesses and are a wonderful way to add interest, power and sex appeal to a look.

My favourite way of wearing this body piece right now is with a tailored jacket and a simple white blouse and skinny jeans; and with this white dress from COS.  Since the black tuxedo jacket was another big trend on the catwalk recently, I’d say I’m getting a head start on SS13 too!

There is also something a little equestrian about this look which I love.  It’s smart and not overtly sexual but understated, which I think is the key to incorporating these pieces as outerwear.

This is probably one of my favourite StyleOnTheCouch looks to date – monochrome, tailoring and a harness.

Alice Yim Raina Dress & Autumn Winter 2012 Collection

Hot on the heels of Peter Pilotto’s spring prints yesterday comes today’s outfit post showing Alice Yim’s Raina dress.  One of the few designers I take a break from my monochromatic norm for, Yim’s Raina dress (featured before on the blog in black, image below) also comes in a delicate dragonfly print, a theme running through her spring collection this year.

The Raina dress is a beautifully classic design in the onyx (black) colour yet the print version transports the dress into the romantic and ethereal category.  This is a perfect dress for the end of summer – the last rays of warmth, the last crisp but sunny evenings outside…

As we move towards autumn, Alice Yim’s collection for winter 2012/13 provides some good transitional options.  A palette of neutral tones, rusty browns, navy and black is broken up by the melancholia print – circular swirls set amongst a fabric dreamscape.  (Click on the image below to enlarge.)  My favourite pieces are the Pia wool and leather vest and the Lucia blouse - a long-sleeved silk Georgette top with lace shoulders.

A high quality collection of leather, wool and lace with masculine overtones – I’m ready to step out of silky Raina and into autumn textures already.  Another lovely collection from Alice Yim NYC.
