Dress The Population Spring 2013

Dress The Population spring 13 looks

Dress The Population Mini DressIn New York City I was introduced to the wonderful Dress The Population, whose sparkling mini dress went on a zillion outings with me over the festive period as I got my shimmer on in Manhattan at Christmas. This spring, the delightful team at Dress The Pop asked me if I’d like to try some of their new collection and of course I jumped at the chance to collaborate with them again.

Launched in July 2011, this LA-based brand have a heavy focus on the movement of fabrics, evidenced nicely this spring with lots of layering and flowing, asymmetrical cuts.  The dresses in this collection are perfect for parties and weddings – pastel and monochrome colours mix and mingle with bold jewel tones and shimmering metallics so you have plenty of choice.  I chose two of my favourite pieces from spring 2013 for the outfit post here. I chose them because they are perhaps also the most versatile, the Lylah chiffon and lace cream skirt with side splits and Cara black chiffon tank.  The tank is also great worn with denim shorts or jeans or a maxi skirt.

I love how Dress The Population help you make an impact on a budget.  Click HERE to view their facebook page.  Click HERE for their website.  Many thanks to Dress The Population for the items featured in this post!

Alice Yim New York: Chiffon and Lace

Alice Yim remains one of my favourite New York designers.  She recently celebrated the two-year anniversary of her namesake label at a rooftop bar in Manhattan, a super stylish event (naturally!) and an opportunity for me to thank Alice for designing clothes that are fabulous to look at and that I feel wonderful wearing.

This outfit from Alice’s spring summer collection – the Sparrow skirt in sapphire blue and the Sierra top in onyx – is a delightful combination of sheer lace and floaty chiffon layers.  It’s an outfit I want to dance and sing in (evidenced by the photoshoot, yes Lydia Hudgens can probably confirm I was a little loopy this day…)

The Sierra top is a gorgeous off the shoulder lace design, falling just at the right place on the waist to go with high-rise styles (I wore it with some high-waisted skinny jeans and high heels too and loved the look).  The bustier underneath is an old style from Reiss – there is a challenge to find the perfect under garment for this top but I think lace/sheer is super glamorous when done right. Just remember that less is more Blog Reader, less is more.

I have half an eye on this outfit for dancing in Charleston, where I am heading this weekend.  I wanted to ask – what do you wear to go dancing in, Blog Reader?

My trusty Zara basic sandals come out again to complete this outfit.

Stay tuned for a feature on Alice Yim’s autumn winter collection, coming soon.

Wearing: Zara sandals; Sparrow skirt and Sierra top from Alice Yim; Reiss bustier (just seen).
