London Style and European Travel…

I’m at the end of my London visit *sob*.  Next I’m flying over to Turkey to see one of my close friends get married in what sounds like an amazing beach ceremony.  I’m staying on in Turkey for a holiday so I’ll be taking a short blog break too.  I’m hoping to have some fabulous images of the places I’m visiting along the south-west coast of Turkey for you when I get back to NYC, Blog Reader.

As I wave goodbye to London and all the amazing Jubilee preparations I’m reminded that I have a little piece of the city in New York with this skyline top by Emma Louise London.  Part of Emma’s spring summer collection 2012, a wonderful tribute to London, this pale mint tunic top with red print is also available in shift dress style.

One thing I noticed in London this visit was the amount of colour around.  Sure, Londoners do black as well as the chic-est of New Yorkers, but there is more of a uniform in Manhattan and more room, it seems, for eclecticism and mixing trends, colour and print, in London.

These Zara heels have been firmly packed in my luggage for this trip. I am amazed Zara haven’t run out yet, I’ve seen so many people wearing them.  And for good reason, they are a beautiful sandal shape and comfortable too.  I’d keep your eye on Zara bags & shoes over the next few months, Blog Reader – they are already ahead of the game with the metallic trend for autumn / winter, I spied this ankle strap sandal in gold which seems like the perfect way to get some shimmer into your wardrobe…

Don’t miss me too much, Blog Reader *wink*

I may not have my regular internet access for tweeting but you can catch up with my adventures on Twitter or tune into my Travel Tumblr for a few pictures over the next week or so.  See you again soon and as always thank you for reading and following* StyleOnTheCouch xo

SlouchOnTheCouch

Some weekends are designed for slouching.  This means giving the little black dresses and high heels a rest and putting on my favourite comfortable clothes, getting a nice bottle of wine and watching the Superbowl (I’m so sorry, America) catching up on Midsummer Murders (England, sorry if I’ve let you down there too) writing to friends back home in London and taking it easy.  I recently decided to make a trip back to the UK in just a couple of weeks as I was feeling a little homesick, which means that with New York Fashion Week, flights, travelling within the UK to see family and friends and London Fashion Week just around the corner, this was the perfect weekend to slouch and re-group some energy for the hectic time ahead.

My favourite slouching clothes are all about the feel of the fabric and fiber on my skin.  I love this T by Alexander Wang grey marled draped muscle dress (picture directly above) not just for its name but for the very cute draped twist at the back.  Made of stretch jersey material, the fabric is opaque and it’s body con style which isn’t an obvious choice for slouching I know – it’s just the simplicity of the design that is so perfect.  The dress is a simple item of clothing you don’t need to worry about.  You throw it on and head to the sofa.

I’ve featured Between The Sheets on the blog before but I’ll say it again, their lounge-wear is the best.  Their Well Played collection, rich in micro modal that gives it that super soft feel is a favourite for lazy weekends.  I chose the soft champagne peach colour for this cardigan but there is a great choice of palette: bamboo (an aqua sorbet colour), dusk (a deep blue), dawn (off white) shade (mid purple) and midnight (black). Their halter neck tunic goes with shorts, leggings and jeans and it’s a super flattering shape.

What a shame to be back at work, Blog Reader. Then again, you know I love my little black dresses and heels….

Give it up, Blog Reader – what do you slouch around in (and other Fashion Bloggers I’ll be interested in your answers here too!)??

Friday Lingerie Lust: Valentine’s Day Part I

I feel there are different camps one can fall into with regards to Valentine’s Day. The first I call the “believers”, those who go all out with flowers, cards, chocolates and poems. The second are the woeful accepters, the Bridget Jones types who cry into the bottom of their empty wine glass and mourn the ghosts of lovers past.  Others are in denial: ‘Valentine’s Day? Oh I hadn’t noticed…..’  Which one are you?

Valentine’s Day, whether single or in a relationship, is the perfect excuse to show a little self love.  Treating oneself to a fabulous new set of lingerie or piece of loungewear on this day should be mandatory.  If you haven’t yet got the message from my lingerie columns that feeling good, outside and in, is intrinsically linked – the interplay between each affecting one another – please re-read my earlier columns.  Ladies in particular, I hope you use Valentine’s Day as the perfect time to invest in that special something that celebrates all your best womanly bits, no matter if others see or if you are the only person to know what lies underneath.

This week is part one of my two-part Valentine’s Day series.  I’ve chosen some of my favourite lingerie items guaranteed to make you feel fabulous – some are designed specially for this time of the year, others are part of current collections.  I hope you take a little inspiration from this series for yourself, a loved one, or even to treat a friend.

Image top: Myla:  Myla brought out a fabulous Valentine’s Day campaign this year featuring runway model Le Call wearing their devastating sexy red and black boudoir pieces.  I own a few sets from Myla and I think the label is incredibly well made.  Recent designs are playful and practical.  Definitely a label to find some inspiration from this time of year.

Image middle top: Huit: The heart shaped design of this ‘cupcake collection’ from Huit make it a perfect choice as a gift.  Available in a range of bold colours (red, purple) at a great price.

Image middle bottom: the Lascivious Simone set in raspberry.  A special Valentine’s Day design, there is some fantastic accentuation of curves in this collection. The brief with its side ‘fins’ is particularly flattering.

Image, bottom: a delightful piece from the Arabesque range from Between the Sheets.  I love this new luxe collection – and if you’re a fan like me make sure you head to the Between the Sheets sample sale at VMV Hypoallergenics in Union Square on Friday 3rd Feb, noon – 8pm, to pick up some Valentine’s bargains.  (I’m going – see you there!)

Tune in for part two next Friday…. Have a great weekend!
