ChristieNicole_lngerie5There are some truly fabulous Australian lingerie designers around at the moment, with Christie Trowbridge of Christie Nicole being one of them.  Creating handmade lingerie from her Sydney base since just last year, Trowbridge’s current ‘Great Escape‘ collection features a series of beautiful bras and bralettes in lace and satin, in summer-fresh colours of white, mint, mauve and polka dot print.  Previously Trowbridge utilized leather and suede fabrics for her lingerie designs which is when I first noticed her – happily she is continuing to experiment with unique fabrics and textures for example the stunning yet delicate showpiece, the limited edition Blaire metal-chain bra which is available for pre-order now.

Alongside the underwear collection sit some fabulous leather and silk daywear styles: the Dakota shortsthe Courtney crop top and the Xana leather biker jacket which I have been coveting for some time.  I’m excited to see Trowbridge grow and develop her collection, mixing inner and outerwear with the ease in which she has begun to shape her brand.

I recently stumbled across Hatsumi’s Laundry on instagram – a delightful and highly covetable Australian lingerie label selling a capsule collection of soft cup bras and briefs.  In an interview with Kester Black blog, designer Jemma Aickin described how she turned her hand to lingerie when she was quite simply; ‘bored’ and having trouble finding undergarments that she really loved:

“I love soft cup bras but they can be hard to come by. So one day when I had nothing better to do I started making some of my own things and it just went from there! I am basically self-taught, I have never studied, but learnt how to sew when I was young and have done a few short courses along the way. I have a patternmaker & a local manufacturer working for me now, but I still do as much as I can myself.”

As with another designer I have much love and respect for, Gabrielle of Hopeless Lingerie, who instagrams her design inspirations on a daily basis, Hatsumi’s Laundry’s tumblr is a veritable feast of Aickin’s influences, from muses such as Kate Moss to everything in monochrome (you can see why this brand is right up my street) along with inspiring aesthetics.  With collections FlowerBed Blackout and Cloud Chamber – many pieces from which are already sold out – you have designs that are delicately soft as well as chic.

Check out the entire collection over at Hatsumi’s Laundry.

coolbrands_bookIf you are a regular reader of my Friday Lingerie series then Kriss Soonik will need no introduction.  A beautiful mix of lingerie and luxe loungewear, Soonik’s collections mix her Nordic minimalism with a hefty dose of New York cool and Parisian chic.  Signatures from the brand include her suspender top and triangle lace bra – the latter has been brought back a rainbow of colours for 2014; all seven colours of lace Soonik has worked with over the years – to celebrate the brand turning five years old.

For SS14 Soonik uses electric blue, cream and white for her line of bodysuits, cover ups, and lace bra and brief sets with signature bows and ruffles all perfectly placed.  My favourites from the new line are the Elva bodysuit (image two, right) – I never found a halterneck design I didn’t like because it accentuates the shoulders in a super sexy way – and the Susan lace knickers (image four, left) which are just too beautifully frilly to cover up.

Named as one of Britain’s ‘Cool Brands‘ for 2013/14 and featuring in countless fashion magazines, you can’t be a true lingerie affectionado without some Kriss Soonik in your closet.
