When it comes to fitness and working out, Blog Reader, I’m never one to shy away from the hard work required to get my heart pumping and my muscles moving.  Until fairly recently I was a huge fan of Pilates reformer classes, but I haven’t been able to find a studio near my new home just yet so I’m back at the gym trying out some new methods to stay in shape.  I recently discovered TRX; a training system that leverages your body weight along with gravity to help you work out with different levels of resistance. It’s quite  a challenge and this, along with the boyfriend’s help (it’s pretty handy going out with someone who used to be a personal trainer*) I’m probably the fittest I’ve been for a while.

One thing guaranteed to get me exercising regularly is having some great kit to work out in.  I’m a huge fan of MICHI New York for some of the most fashionable work out gear I have ever set my eyes on – here I am (still) wearing designer Michelle Watson’s Illusion Legging with my new Nike ’windrunner’ and vest from ASOS.  The gym is one of the rare times I do colour, it spurs me on – this jacket is lightweight and perfect for running inside and out this spring.  I confess I am cheating a little here wearing my ASH wedge trainers in this post. I revert to my ASICS for working out but I wanted to show the ASH sneakers because I wear them constantly – if you don’t yet own a pair of ASH check out the full range here.

A little bit of fitness inspiration for you today, to start your week!

I’ve got a little break coming up this weekend, Blog Reader – I’m heading to one of the islands off the coast of England on Wednesday so stay tuned to my Instagram to see pictures.  Hope you all had a fabulous weekend!

*As you might imagine there are pros and cons to this when I’m not motivated lol.

Vestiaire Collective StyleOnTheCouch Handbags

It is, Blog Reader, that time of the year where I pack for Fashion Week.  I will be in a largely monochrome wardrobe, accessorized with a few of my favourite things – a bag big enough for my Canon, heels that I feel comfortable and fabulous in and the old harness body piece and leather visor here and there…

Vestiaire Collective is a luxuy re-sale store that been providing me with a lot of inspiration (case in point: Le Journal) and some key pieces for my fashion week wardrobe.  I met the team at Vestiaire back in December, at their party to celebrate the appointment of Bay Garnett as style advisor for the site.  Garnett is a valuable addition to Vestiaire (anyone who has read Cheap Date magazine will understand why!) whose mini series collection curated by fashion editors and overall approach to supplying authentic, quality pre-owned fashion is a big hit with me.

Vestiaire works like this: the team select clothing and accessories from their international community.  Items for sale are from current or recent seasons only, which keeps the site fresh and contemporary.  Brand new and slightly worn pieces sell at between 30-70% of their original retail prices, and with some highly sought after items on the site you can find yourself with the pick of some very fashionable bargains indeed.  Vestiaire inspect all the pieces sold through their site before it reaches the new owner – a lovely quality control process that gave me a lot of reassurance about what I was purchasing.

The buying process is a simple one. The site is easy to navigate – by brands, clothing item, size, colour etc – and I found that I relied on the expertise of the team a lot, their ‘We Love‘ section is one of my favourites.

Vestiaire Ash Footwear

Thinking ahead to Fashion Week, I purchased another pair of ASH wedge sneakers (Yes-My-Name-Is-Sarah-And-I-Am-An-Ash-Addict) from the site, perfect with my leather leggings and boxy sweater.  After a few negotiations about the quality of the item – the final price was actually reduced slightly after Vestiaire confirmed a little more wear on the soles than expected, to me it was hardly noticeable but I was glad of this part of the process! – the sneakers arrived promptly.

If you don’t already know about Vestiaire – be sure to give the site a try.  I bet you will return again and again!

In Training: Ash Footwear – Andy Wedge Trainer Hi-Top

At one stage in my life I lived in trainers*.  What with Psychology study, placements in different hospitals and centres around London and part time work I was always rushing here there and everywhere and trainers got the comfortable vote.

Sneakers with wedges (hidden in the sole, to extend the leg as if wearing high heels) have been around for a while now and recently I had the opportunity to try out a new style from ASH Footwear – the Andy wedge hi-top trainer in black, stone and cobalt.

I am completely and utterly besotted with this new style.  First of all, they are super comfortable.  Secondly, they are very flattering – with regular trainers you lose those glorious leg extending inches you get with a high heel; here you have comfort and style all in one.

Another thing I love about the sneakers is that they give me the opportunity to be more casual with my clothing.  Perfect for this time of year, when warmth can often trump ‘fashion’, (an ongoing battle I have come the colder weather).  Not so anymore…!  The trainers are a great partner for slim fit jeans – here I’m wearing them with my favourite skinnies, Zara coat and my new boyfriend tee from Zoe Karssen.

Other ways I can’t wait to style these trainers are with leather-look trousers, a plain white tee and my Helmut Lang jacket and also with more denim and a classic black blazer.

These are now my go to run-about-town shoes.  Any wedge sneakers in your closet, Blog Reader? How do you style them?

You can view the entire ASH wedge trainer collection here as well as buy online.

*much to the amusement of my fellow psychology trainees who read this blog. Yes, this one is for you, guys.
