Classic Black Dress (Alice Yim NY), Classic Styles…

It is without a doubt, Blog Reader, that my favourite fashion days involve little make-up, a black dress and some gorgeous shoes.  I’ve worn this Raina Dress by Alice Yim practically non-stop since I got it.  I love the neckline and the side slits in the skirt that flow beautifully in the Manhattan breeze when I walk.  Created in silk Georgette and Charmeuse (I’m obsessed with the quality of the fabrics I wear these days) Raina is one of those dresses that makes a perfect day to night transition – it can be worn without the belt for a relaxed day time look or cinched in at the waist for a sharper evening silhouette.

Every time I wear these Zara sandals I get compliments.  I think they were a fantastic purchase this year and I’m happy to see that Zara has updated the style for fall here. If that isn’t a great party shoe I don’t know what is, Blog Reader!

The belt in this look is from a European brand I miss in the US very much.  COS offer modern and timeless styles and they are a favourite of mine for basics like white shirts and classic shift dresses.  COS have some fabulous structured silhouettes, so if you’re in the market for some seriously fashionable styles be sure to check out their website.  You can shop online too, obviously great for me in the US.

There are still lots of exciting things coming up on the blog over the next few weeks, Blog Reader.  My Nine West x Pose style challenge draws to a close – thank you to everyone who has been voting!  You can find the penultimate style here, which, if you ‘love’ you will be entered into a competition to win shoes. I have (short) shorts, a beautiful purple gown from BCBG Max Azria and some gorgeous accessories coming up.  Anything else you want to see? Be sure to email me using the ‘Ask Me Anything’ mail top right of the blog.  Until next time…..  StyleOnTheCouch, xo

Alice Yim New York: Chiffon and Lace

Alice Yim remains one of my favourite New York designers.  She recently celebrated the two-year anniversary of her namesake label at a rooftop bar in Manhattan, a super stylish event (naturally!) and an opportunity for me to thank Alice for designing clothes that are fabulous to look at and that I feel wonderful wearing.

This outfit from Alice’s spring summer collection - the Sparrow skirt in sapphire blue and the Sierra top in onyx – is a delightful combination of sheer lace and floaty chiffon layers.  It’s an outfit I want to dance and sing in (evidenced by the photoshoot, yes Lydia Hudgens can probably confirm I was a little loopy this day…)

The Sierra top is a gorgeous off the shoulder lace design, falling just at the right place on the waist to go with high-rise styles (I wore it with some high-waisted skinny jeans and high heels too and loved the look).  The bustier underneath is an old style from Reiss – there is a challenge to find the perfect under garment for this top but I think lace/sheer is super glamorous when done right. Just remember that less is more Blog Reader, less is more.

I have half an eye on this outfit for dancing in Charleston, where I am heading this weekend.  I wanted to ask – what do you wear to go dancing in, Blog Reader?

My trusty Zara basic sandals come out again to complete this outfit.

Stay tuned for a feature on Alice Yim’s autumn winter collection, coming soon.

Wearing: Zara sandals; Sparrow skirt and Sierra top from Alice Yim; Reiss bustier (just seen).

Smokin’ Hot.

Last week in Austin, Texas, the weather was a gorgeous 70 degrees.  Those of you who have experienced the New York winter will understand that this required a complete clothing overhaul for the trip.  One item I dusted off from the back of my wardrobe selected for my trip was my favourite pair of shorts from Gap’s 1969 denim range.  Sunglasses? Check – these Guess shades now travel everywhere with me.  I also lived in this Ivy Top from Alice Yim’s spring 2012 collection - available in onyx and seashell, if you’re looking for a versatile top for summer that will go with skirts, shorts, jeans, you name it – and that can be dressed up or down, then get thee to Alice Yim now.

Finally, I cannot mention my trip to Austin without telling you about Salt Lick BBQ where I had an amazing evening.  If you’re ever in Austin you absolutely MUST visit this place!  Based just outside of the city, Salt Lick serves mouthwatering barbeque from their vast pit seven days a week.  I even did a little flame grilling there.  Well, sort of…

What are you dying to break out of your wardrobe, for summer, Blog Reader?
