I couldn’t have had a better start to the New Year than I did in Paris.  An amazing city for fashion, food and architecture – five days exploring Paris was the perfect way to kick-start 2013.  I did very little other than explore the streets on foot and soak up the sights and the atmosphere – the pretty Marais and Saint Germain with their boutiques and brasseries; the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Tuileries Garden and the Pantheon.

Being January, walking around the city required several layers for warmth and I spent most of my time wrapped up underneath my coat in chunky knit sweaters and my favourite cashmere beanie from Fred Segal.  This persian blue jumper is from H&M – a spontaneous buy in December that is serving me well this winter!  Perfect with jeans this cable knit is a great colour to fight the grey clouds and dark nights that draw in so early.  Having said that, it was a beautiful day when these photos were taken at the Champ de Mars – I was so happy to be in Paris!

My Paris Foodie Notes:

Brunch at the divine Angelina Tearoom, at the wonderful suggestion of my friend Anne.  We dined on mini macarons, freshly baked organic rolls with jam and honey and duck foie gras terrine on brioche toasts with fig chutney.  All topped off with a glass of champagne, of course!

Coffee and cake at Jacques Genin in the Marais, where I met fellow blogger Cee – whose site I have followed avidly for some time now.  A fashion blogger and aspiring novelist currently away from her home in Vancouver for adventures in Paris, Cee’s personal style is inspired by her icons Audrey Hepburn, Coco Chanel, Marion Cotillard and Leigh Lezark. At her suggestion I tried the Paris Brest pastry, a mouth-watering ring of choux pastry with praline cream filling.

Supper at Cafe Charlot, also in the Marais (where I met my gorgeous friend, handbag designer Kasia Dietz, for great wine and food).  A New York feel in a perfect Parisian setting.

A late night take-away crepe from one of the crepe stands in the Latin Quarter.  A must!

Chocolates from Maison Georges Larnicol.  A little taste for my Eurostar trip home….

My Paris Shopping Highlights:

Browsing Le Bon Marche, ambling around the streets of the Marais (for French staples Maje and Sandro) and visiting Mise En Cage boutique.

Wearing: Blue knit from H&M; Fred Segal cashmere beanie, jeans: sample.

Photos: William Williams.

  1. love your blue sweater!

  2. Great Way to start 2013 – happy newyear to you :)

  3. I went to Paris the year before during Christmas and had a fantastic time too. Paris is so beautiful and between the Parisian perfect meals, the deserts and picturesque city I would go back there in a heart beat. I did make the mistake of not wearing/bringing anything warm…..froze the entire time I was there.

  4. It was an absolut pleasure to have a chance to meet you in person this past week, Sarah – I’m so glad that you enjoyed your time in Paris {although I confess to having a suspicion that you would!} It really shows through in these photos. You look absolutely radiant and the vibrant blue suits you beautifully. Thank-you so much for your kind words; blogging can seem at times like talking into thin air, and it’s the truly human connections I’ve made with people like you that make it all worthwhile :) A bientot, as we say…!

  5. Oh, très jolie! Hoping to visit Europe (France, UK and Italy) next year ;) Paris is definitely on my list!

  6. Can’t wait for you to visit again ;-)

  7. I have been perusing your Paris pictures with such glee (a tang of jealously in there too); Paris is one of my favourite cities. What a great way to see in the New Year! I really must hop over to Paris again this year; I want nothing more than to find myself strolling along the left and right banks once again. The blue jumper looks great on you; I like that you are stepping away from your monochrome loving (which don’t get me wrong you do so well) – it is great to see you in something so bright.

    Dreaming on Paris…

    Bisou bisou!

  10. What a fun NY post and cheery jumper (or ‘pull’ as the French would say). Also enjoyed your dramatic monochrome post but can’t comment on it for some reason – fab inspiration. x
