I Love (Emma Louise) London: Leather Dress

UK designer Emma Louise London has been on my ‘to watch’ list for a while now.  I interviewed Emma for Lookbooks back in April when I discovered her spring summer 2012 collection, a tribute to the city of London and a celebration of all things British.  Her Horizon Tunic remains one of my favourite tops this summer, always accompanied by a surge of British pride when I wear it!

For Emma’s autumn winter 2012 collection, she has taken inspiration from a recent trip to Kenya where she took part in a 400km cycle ride for charity.  Earthy tones and elephant prints are key within this new line, which features soft, draped blazers, silk shirts, leather jackets and tweed coats:

The elephant prints are wonderful (Emma’s training saw her working with the team at Olivia Rubin, a designer known for her signature graphic prints) but this leather dress is my favourite piece from the aw12 collection.  It has a gorgeous fit and flare style, with contrasting royal purple top and tan leather skirt.  It makes me want to go dancing, and every woman should, I feel, possess a dresses like this in her wardrobe….

It is hot hot hot in New York City this weekend. Highs of mid 30s (90 degrees).  Carrie Bradshaw once said: “In a city of infinite options, sometimes there’s no better feeling than knowing you only have one”.  Right now my only concern is a focus on not melting.  See you on Monday, Blog Reader!

Hi Kim – do I recall you asked me about Emma’s tunic top last time I posted on her? Did you get it in the end? I agree about the mixed fabrics, the top had a nice feel (I think Emma calls this her ‘fuzz’ and ‘leather’ dress) and the skirt had a perfect flare… x

If you’re concerned about melting, you could always send a little bit of that heat to Vancouver – we’re still living in what looks like winter, with clouds and rain almost daily. I’m dreaming of beautiful dresses like this sweet and unconventional number from Emma Louise, but most days I’m still in mid-calf boots and skinnies. If summer ever comes, though, the first thing I want to find is a leather skirt. It had never occurred to me to consider a shade other than black, but this lovely dress definitely has me rethinking that!

Cee I would happily send some heat over to you, it is not often I complain about being too hot but this weekend might be one of those times…! The humidity in NYC is a killer in high summer! I think the tan coloured leather here gives it a nice unique look. I have some black leather in my wardrobe (my beloved Helmut Lang jacket) but this is quite a dress.

This is too much. I can’t imagine this dress looking any more elegant on an original 9 heads sketch. This creamy tan and royal purple are the epitome of chic on you. Aces on this one.

I did notice that I posted the legs twice in a row. Did the lovely comments go to my head or is it just too hot in NYC?! Either way (and I am grateful for the nice comments on the first post. I’m not getting any younger nor do the treadmill and I get on any better) thank you for your fabulous comment on the dress! xx

Gorgeous dress and great legs! This dress has a great combination of colours (purple and tan, who knew?) and the cut is really feminine. Great find!

You look amazing! I know you commented saying you remain unconvinced about wearing pale purple jeans, but your legs are ah-mazing. I would run around naked with those legs – it may cool you down in this heat ;)

I’ll post those AG Jeans on the blog soon Franishh – you’ll have to let me know what you think! I did a little instagram pic, not sure if you are on instagram though? Thank you for stopping by…. x

What a gorgeous dress! So different to other leather dresses, they’re usually just plain shift dresses or whatever. I love the colours too! I could do with some heat, I’m totally fed up with English rain! You must’ve been glad to escape it! xxx

I love this dress and it looks great on you. The mix of neutral and purple is lovely and the fit and flare leather skirt is darling!

Thank you Bonnie – we are both leather fans! Lydia, who does the photography for my site, is also a huge fan and we were dying a little over this dress. Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to write a comment x

Hey Hitha I saw Lydia’s beautiful photos of you just the other day – nice of you to stop by! Leather is an all round thing for me, but I do think that because this dress is tan, that it helps make it a bit more summery.x

Hey Miss Sarah! Lovely as ever. Those pins … good on you girl! Oh, I’m up to 3x/week with Pilates. Posture is better. Pins? Working on them. Genetics, I’m afraid. LOL :)

Wow..you look amazing in that dress Lady! Just had an invite to Emma Louise’s press day which sadly I can’t make :( Hope you didn’t melt in the NYC heat…and a very Happy 4th Celebrations to you! xxx

I’m going to change into a red dress with blue shoes this evening, doing my bit! I also had that invite, shame you can’t go, I would have loved to hear what you thought of the new line. Has England had any summer yet or are you and Ms B making your own with roses and champagne? :-)
