Maxi Impact

I have a confession.  I was very anti maxi dresses when they started to become mainstream fashion.  I associated them with flowery fabrics or as a one off item for a holiday wardrobe, that sort of thing.

It was when I saw one of my favourite bloggers Andy from Style Scrapbook http://www.stylescrapbook.com/ wearing a long maxi dress in one of her summer blog posts I felt inspired – I thought actually, I could make this look work for me.

My first maxi dress this year was from French Connection, it had sleeves and a low V neck (see my post “The Woman in Black” http://styleonthecouch.wordpress.com/2010/07/19/the-woman-in-black/)  Well, I’ve now progressed to a more tight fitting, slinkier style – the dress I’m wearing here is from ASOS, it’s currently on sale for just £8 and I think it’s an absolute bargain.

In these photos my hair is covering the top of the dress – it’s a boob tube style but the top is robust and fitted enough for me not to have to pull it up every two minutes (is this just my problem??)  I can see myself wearing the dress this autumn/winter – with a sharp fitted blazer at work or a chunky knit cardigan for warmth.  Any thoughts on the maxi?  Anyone else a convert like me?

Wearing: Boob tube maxi dress from ASOS.  Shoes, Dorothy Perkins.
